Not at all. There are two sides to this discussion. I believe social media is a useful tool and has found it's place in our society. If you don't want to use it, that's your choice. It's not the devil, it won't rot your brain, and it isn't just for 13 year old girls.

Rich, I am not going to go back and read your initial response to my 'flame' comment, but I have read the comments by others that were posted afterward.

Texx is completely correct - I took your words exactly as he did, as belittling. I have been involved in computer technology since the time when we programmed using punch cards. I have the latest technology at my fingertips at this moment, and could tweet, blog, or anything else...right now.

So, no - I'm not ignorant of the advantages of moving out of our caves (I even recently replaced my candles with light bulbs and upgraded my fire pit).

With some good things come bad things as well. For instance, I love the moves forward that we've made with non-technology (equality, freedom of speech,etc), but I cringe when I hear the torrent of 'F' bombs on the radio, in the coffee shop conversations...everywhere. Is that progress?

It's a similar thing with all the social media. I often see two people sitting next to each other in a bar, coffee shop or restaurant, having a discussion. One is obviously animated and excited, but the other gets a phone call. He drops everything and talks until the more important person on the phone is through. Or he gets a ring indicating that an email or tweet has arrived - same thing - the person in 'real life' drops in significance.

I think that's poor behavior, and I think it's directly related to the effects of social media.

I'm currently sitting in a coffee shop. If a friend were to walk in and sit down next to me, this laptop would get shut and I would not respond to phone calls, emails or anything else during the period when that other person was present. I can guarantee you that this is not true of most of the other people in this coffee shop.

Now, does what I said in this post mean that I'm "not seeing the big picture"? Perhaps, but I see enough of it to move forward while not losing the valuable aspects of life that I've learned from the cavemen who proceeded me.
