Did anyone see this auction on Sunday? Thomaston Auctions. Lot 606. If so, what do you think about the cards and the final price?
606 COLLECTION (506) CIGARETTE CARDS - Including: (14) Rare 1911 Mecca Double-Fold Baseball Cards; also by Mecca: (30) Boxing, (22) Track & Field, (12) Billiards, (4) Aviators, (3) Bowlers, (14) Birds; PLUS by Hassan: (28) Indian Life, (7) Explorers, (17) Cowboy Life, (22) Birds & Animals, (2) Baseball; PLUS by Dukes: (39)Terrors of America, (8) Ocean & River Steamers; PLUS by Turkish Trophies: (17) Fables, (3) Fortunes, (2) Jigsaw (rare); PLUS by Helmar: (12) Landmark Houses, (6) States, (9) Nations, (7) Costumes; PLUS (24) Richmond Straight Flags of States, (23) Allen & Ginter Birds of Tropics, (38) Arm & Hammer Useful Birds, (17) Goodwins Dogs, (10) Derby Foreign Stamps(7) Between the Acts Actors, (12) Mogul Toasts(8) Starr Baseball Cards, (5) Sweet Caporal Baseball Cards, plus more, conditions vary. Sold for $7500.00 To see the pictures of the cards, click the live online bidding tab, past auctions, then on the 2012 Winter Auction, Day Two, click View Lot details for Lot 606 then View more images. The Double Folders included Speaker, Collins and Baker, Chance and Evers. There was a T206 Mathewson with a chunk out of the top. A T205 Collins, a caramel (?) of Bender and then seven George Close E94 (I think) cards. Included was a Wagner. PS Before the auction, the estimated price for the lot was $800 - $1,200 dollars. PPS No, I did not win these cards. I just wanted to see what people thought about the price. Was it too high (since people on this board say caramel card prices have come down), was it just right or was it too low? Were there hard to find background colors for the players? The e94 Wagner is a beauty. I'm assuming most of the value from the auction came from that.

I think the buyer got a great price just on the E94s. They are easily worth the $7500. The violet Kleinow is a very tough color combination (it appears it might be a little short though), the olive Evers is a tough find and the Wagner doesn't come up very often in that condition especially.

The $7,500 was before the buyers premium of 15%, the website is misleading. I believe the buyer is building a set, so you prolly won't see them on eBay. Maybe the extra Kleinow.
