Default The original Babe

Babe Danzig. The scan does not do it justice.

No scan but there is a Byrnes portrait with a purple background that hard to beat also.

There are hundreds , each of the 4 different T212 sets has some nice images.

I just looked through only a few, .....I like these 2 catchers, very lifelike and colorful

wonder if these 2 teams disliked each other like todays SF/LA??

No such thing as an ugly Obak but it's hard to beat any of the 1909s with their ornate backs.

I know very little about this set, but I did notice this cool image on the Baum card. Image humbly borrowed from John's recent REA T212 "3 for 3" pickup....

This whole set of cards 1909-1911 are pound for pound just some of the most amazing and for sheer eye candy almost can't beat.

Here are some graded ones and some raw ones off to SGC soon. Went thru and picked out a few for you guys.

Hope it's not image overload but really just picking a few from this set is so hard as there are so many great images.

Cheers,

John

Nourse and Lerchen are my favorites. Had never seen the Ryan before. Same pose as his T4. Love it!

I may be mistaken, but don't all T4's have a T212 pose?

And please ban Wonka from all future Obak posts. That collection is just way too nice.

Default favorite image..

My favorite image is this proof but I am biased.

Also showing some handcut T212-1s from a very original collection.

Max- If I am not mistaking, and I might be, there are 1-2, T4's with no corresponding T212's.

Default Obakalicious

John has posted some of my all-time favorite artistic carboard gems, many of which happen to be Obaks...in particular the Manush, Stewart, J.Smith, Coy, Meikle, Bloomfield, Criger and Wiggs. My examples are pretty darn nice looking, but what John has just shouldn't exist...egad they are awesome.

Default Ten Million

Perhaps not the best looking image of the T212's.....but, the favorite in my Obak collection. Only paid $10 for it back in the 1980's.

IMHO the worst T212 Obak image is on-par with the best T206...they are that beautiful. The Seaton (Seattle) card is magnificent.

These T212s are gorgeous. I've been meaning to pick one up for my collection for a while, but I've got to find the right combination of good looking card, price, and reason to pick up that specific player or team. I don't want to pick up any random one, but one of a player that has an interesting history if not a star.

James agree on both points, the Seaton card is a neat one. What I find really neat is the color changes from 1910 to 1911 examples. Bright red lips and other features added in 1911 from the 1910 poses. One guy I think Raymond (I will try to scan) goes from an odd looking guy to the Joker from the batman comics.

Coy is one of the best Brian here is Coy for the folks who haven't seen the card.

Also even though Max the current Chairman of The Board of the PCL Card Junkie Society or (PCLCJS) has clearly banned me from these Obak threads.
I will break the rules and post a few more as the rumor on the street is Tbob or Anthony will take the election next year.

One of my favs. is the Howard card, is it me or does Moskiman look a bit like Lajoie?

I hope you guys enjoy looking at these as much as I enjoying sharing…now onto business Leon stop teasing just pack up the strip and send it here its brother is lonely.

Cheers,

John

Wow! Keep posting the T212s! I love them but only own a few examples. At lunch recently I mentioned to tbob that I think these are the best looking of all the deadball era cards.

I've always gotten a kick out of this little variation on the 1910 Cutshaw (I know Obak collectors know about it, though I don't know if it's a listed variation). At some point during the production run somebody decided the flagpole needed a flag.

Walter Carlisle, shown in a previous post, accomplished organized baseball's only unassisted triple play by an outfielder (!) right around the time frame of his Obak cards (1910 and 1911). Is that interesting enough?

Jons card was pulled from that exact 1909 pack, if you look at the face of Lewis you can see the age stains cut across his face from the tan colored flap of the inner sleeve holding the cigarettes.

Card was in the pack for 90+ years until it was first opened ca2000, thats why you dont see other T212-1's with this type of staining.

I know this because I was the first collector to own this pack years ago (I bought it opened from a noncollector)

Frank's absolutely correct. I think I puchased the pack from him circa 2003 or so. I loved the fact that the original card and pack survived together, and as long as I own it, it will stay that way.

Default I am not undecided on this

A few I still have left. One of each print variation, plus a dupe. Sorry for the old school holders, this is how it was done before you got to pay someone to protect your card.
