Oh well, I was the high bidder for almost 60 seconds at 12:59am EST on the 1885 Cincinnati (AA) team cabinet w/Bid McPhee. Wish I could afford to go higher but can't. Should be a big mystery as to who is going to get that one............
On the plus side, I was fortunate enough to win the lot of (14) - 1890 Sporting Life Baseball Team Woodcuts and am only interested in keeping one of them (Cleveland - NL) so if anyone here would like any others, please send me a PM and we can work something out. I had bids in on the d310 and d311 lots. I came away a winner on the d311s - a small group of 10 Oakland Oaks players.
I really only need two players - Wares and Maggert...will probably part with the others. |

It drove me crazy not having a clock countdown showing between bids...I just felt like I had no idea when it was ending....but, nothing different for Lew's auctions. He had some really nice items once again.

He's old school no doubt, I kinda like it. At least the auction ended at a decent time too.

Mr. Lipset runs a really nice auction. Congrats to all who won something.
If the winner of lot 192 is on our board and is looking to sell the E98 Orange Clarke, please shoot me a PM or email at stkindler@frontier.com with a price. I am very interested in that card. Thank You Tim |

I liked it as well...he had ALOT of nice stuff in his auction!! Not knowing when it was going to end was tough, but that is ok. You either bid, or get off the pot!!!

Lew always seems to find gems for his auction.
This year was no exception.

Lew is as solid as they come. With all the questions about auction house morality, Lew stands out as one of the good people in the hobby.

Great auction as usual from Lew. Managed to secure 1 W on the memorabilia side.

Congrats to the winner of the Sockalexis postcard. Had I not shelled out for Lasik Eye Surgery the MORNING of the auction, I was prepared to bid up to $3,000 on it, and the buyer got it for a little over half that. Another will come up for sale in the next 5-10 years and I am young, and I think I will enjoy my new eyesight more than that postcard for the next decade! It was a nice auction!

The Bregstone PC's went for $650 a card. That's a price only Jeff could believe!

Did anyone win anything cool from Lew? If so, what did you think about the prices? Did you think things went cheap? Certain things, I thought went pretty reasonable for what they were.....

I won a couple of Ruth card lots. I feel I paid pretty strong prices for them. 168 and 174

Hi, Yes it was truly an amazing auction. Every year Lew seems to come up with a truly mind numbing quantity of Pre War Exhibit Cards. This year was no exception. Had bids on a few of his groupings but managed to win only one, the 80 + group of mainly 1920's Exhibit Cards. Total w/ Premium around $3,800.00. Not a bad deal for over 80 mainly ex to ex-mint examples with some pretty decent HOF'ers mixed in.
I have to tell you, I recently went to the Shriners show last weekend and I couldn't find 1 Exhibit Card worth buying never mind any from the 20's. That show is really on life support but since it is the only show I am able to drive to I continue to go. It amazes me how much great vintage collectibles are offered through auctions like Lew's. Check out the Heritage auction coming up later in April as well as REA of course. Unbelievable items to be had without the cost of travelling to shows. Wonder why most of these shows now have become so pitiful but yet all these great items seem to be always available from the auction houses ? I really enjoy the shows but I can't incur expenses without purchasing anything. I swear I have seem some of the same dealers with the same inventory at the same pricing for over 3 years. I have no idea how they can afford to tie up cash flow for such long periods of time. Anyway I have my SCP, Goodwin, Hunt & Heritage auction catalogs all marked up and sitting on my coffee table and I am waiting for my REA catalog to join them. |
