Title says it all. Fox was stabbed to death in San Antonio in late 1955. Anyone know of or have a 1954 Topps Howie Fox that has been signed? Knowing that info is the difference beween me getting into a signed 1954 Topps Orioles team set or not.

The story behind Fox's death, and the limited possibility would make that autographed card like your own personal Wagner! Great stuff....

to say that card exists.
Given 2 years opportunity, someone should have gotten a signed 54 Topps, even in those days --- However, I would wager than perhaps less than 10 still exist and may be available. I would check with some dealers such as Keating and Simon to see if they have ever handled such a card Rich |

*BUMP* I checked with Phillip Marks and he vaguely remembers one. How much would you guesstimate one would be valued at?

Just looking around on the internet it looks like his auto goes for about $100-$200...what's the multiplier for having the auto on a baseball card? I'd say you'd be looking at $250 or better if you could find one.

I don't know autographs that well, but it seems even though he died in 1955 his autograph is not rare...I was just guessing.

Dan, there are other factors involved then just the autograph itself. People collect the various Topps sets (or team sets from the set itself) autographed and obviously if anyone tries to get the 1954 set they need this card--thus the MUCH higher price tag. Similar players with high price tags are the likes of Jim Umbricht, Ken Hubbs, Walt Bond, etc. You would be surprised what some will pay for a seemingly obscure auto on a Topps card.

James,
I can say with pretty near certainty that I know of a collection that contains a '54 Bowman Fox. I have never seen a '54 Topps signed. edit: nevermind, it is a '52 Bowman, sorry about that Jeff
