I think most of us can relate to that story. Everyone should read it......Heck, if you put "type collecting" in for the acronym "T206" and "Kim" in for his wife, that could easily be me!!

That was an excellent article. I think he should write a screenplay. Maybe something like Owning Mahowny -- with BB cards instead of casinos.

Boy, this part below really describes me with my Yankees cards:
My wife Tejal held a torn manila envelope, displaying the contents before me. Within a welded slab of hard plastic was my T206 Piedmont Rube Waddell baseball card. "You told me you stopped."" I did. I ordered these off eBay months ago. They must have just sent them." I had actually bought them just a week before. My wife asked me how much I paid. I told her $30. She threatened to feed the card to the evil dog that lived downstairs. I confessed and told her it cost $350. Ha ha ha, i am SO addicted, and i have to constantly tell my wife the cards that come in were ordered awhile ago and mainly that they are cheap. I go further than in that article, i will say they are just a few bucks when they are over $100. The worst thing is when someone sends it needing a signature, then i really have to dance around with my wife, complaining that i cant believe for a cheap card the seller wanted a signature. I hope she believes me. ![]()

Hilarious! Makes one wonder why there arent more women running down (then backing over) their spouses in the driveway.

If a parking ticket for an expired meter sends her into hysterics she may be a tad high-strung.

I suspect it is all a put-on--does anyone really believe that a man married to a harridan like that would write an article making her into a national laughingstock? Still, if it is true I'd hate to be the deciding vote on the jury trying this guy for letting Mr. Hand turn into Mr. Fist.

So did anyone email him and invite him to the site?? We can be his support group!
Just remember, what we do with cards, they do with shoes and purses. They just tend to notice it more then we do! And guys, if we have all learned something from this board and the many "ex-wives" Tell them every card is worth about a dollar!! soon as they find out that we enjoy them, that pisses them off, now add in a divorce and the fact they are valuable, you know that is where they want to strike first for revenge!

I'm probably in the minority here, but if my spouse were putting thousands of dollars on credit I'd be pissed too. I also would never lie to my wife about how much money I was spending.

You know, I must have hit it very lucky with my wife. She enjoys that I enjoy it. All I have to do is be...RESPONSIBLE....which is a novel concept for most pre-war collectors

Happy to say I have not purchased any cards on credit. I feel that might constitute a problem. My wife is aware of what I spend. She also knows where the front door is...Ha Ha Ha joking of course (in case she decides to read Net54).

My name is Bill....and I was a T206 ....I did sell my entire set in the REA auction in May of 2009 in lots and it wasnt easy after putting it together over 20 years. As I got older I wanted to pay for college for kids and pay some bills and buy some income producing equities while opportunities existed. I did love those cards and the story clearly indicates how the Monster can take hold. I have scans of all my cards in my computer so I can still enjoy them. I do have other special cards that I have kept, and then there is my T207 set....

I'll attempt to extract my foot from my mouth. Adam is probably correct in assuming that the article was a bit of put-on but my first impression was to take it seriously. If anyone were to interfere with my enjoyment of baseball card collecting or anything else for that matter, I would not take kindly to being dictated to. That being said, my wife's well-being comes first in my priorities. No bill has ever gone unpaid because I over-spent on old cardboard. Our financial security, present and future, has never been compromised because of my filthy, disgusting habits. My wife is a saint. She is supportive of my collecting because she knows how much I enjoy it. She knows I spend big bucks. If this guy is using Junior's lunch money to buy T206s his wife has a right to be concerned. If he's sneaking VISA and eBay purchases into the house it's true cardaholic behavior. But if she is going to order him to stop buying cards and otherwise get all habuts their marriage will soon be circling the drain. QED and end of rant.
