Hanging next to Ron Oser (Lengendary Auctions) is always a hoot. Our booths are adjacent at the Philly show. I have
known Ron since 1980 when I met him at the Montclair State College (NJ) BB card show. We have grown old together in this hobby. Friday nite at the Philly show a guy walked in with an eclectic group of 400+ T-cards. He walked it around and ended up at Ron's booth. Ron and I sorted through all of these cards and Ron bought them. The majority of the cards in this collection consist of an assortment of 375 T205's, T206's and OBAK's. Additionally, the star cards are...... T205 and T206 Cobb (red) 18 - T205 and T206 HOFer's T206 DRUM's (Pfeister and Rucker) and the following T205 DRUM's...... Austin Chase Knight Lord Olmstead Payne Quinn Furthermore, two great pitchers were signing at the show...... Bob Feller is 91 years old and very robust looking for his age. It would not surprise me if he can still go to the mound and pitch a few innings. Jim Bunning is 77, and looks good enough to pitch his 3rd no-hitter. Bunning signed for 160 fans (the highest number of signings for the weekend, and twice that of Ripken). While, no one would dare compare Bunning with Feller, their numbers are astonishingly close......17-18 year careers, 3.25 ERA's. Bunning's W-L is 224-184 while Feller's W-L is 266-162. However, Bunning has a considerable edge in the K's/BB stat with 2855/1000 to Feller's 2581/1764. TED Z |

Whats wrong with Jim Bunning? Just because he doesn't want OUR hard earned money going to extend peoples unemployment benefits....? I should hope all of those Senators would go over how our tax money is spent as well as Bunning. If you keep extending unemployment....people will keep what they are doing .....sitting back collecting the governments ( my portion ) money..

BTW, back on track. My ancient mother was a school kid in Cleveland in the late 40's - she can still recite the team by position. She never made it to a series game, but they used to let them listen at school on the radio. I think Feller still lives in a little town called Gates Mills, Ohio. |

He posted NOTHING about political views in this thread about Senator Bunning. The only thing he posted were:
How many signatures and career records, nothing wrong with that. I suggest we drop the political issue immediately. If you wish to discuss whether Bunning was a better pitcher than Luis Tiant or Mickey Lolich or Wes Ferrell (to name a few and include a Pre-War pitcher) now go ahead and discuss. Regards Rich |

Lets please don't get into politics. IF ya'll must you can start a thread over in the watercooler talk section and hash it out. There won't be any groundbreaking ideas or ideologies. I have my political views just like everyone else. This isn't the place for them though. I think Richard S's question is legit though. A question about Bunning running an autograph scam is board-worthy. Would like to hear more about it...

Back to the cards...
If you are keeping score... The Austin, Knight, and Quinn are already known Drum backs. The Olmstead and Payne are new to me. Leon, do you remember which Chase and which Lord were the Drum backs? Can we expect to see these in the next BL auction? (Please?) Joshua |

Hey guys, whose making this "political" ?
Not me ? ? Jim Bunning is a really nice guy to talk with, as I have had on several occasions over the years. With the exception of 1961 and 1964, Bunning pitched on mediocre teams for most of his 17 years. He would have won 300 games if he had he been on 1st class teams. His control was amazing . You have to appreciate his 3 to 1 ratio of strikeouts to walks, as it ranks as one of the best in Baseball. And, don't forget that Bunning pitched No-hitters in both Leagues. This feat still stands as a record unequalled in the Major Leagues. Anyhow, he was very popular with the attendees at the Philly Show this weekend. In 2 separate finds within a year, Legendary Auctions has discovered a total of 15-T205 DRUM"S. This is more T205 DRUM's than have been seen in the past 15 years. I expect that the seven T205 DRUM's that I have listed here will be offered in Le- gendary's late Spring auction. Twenty (or so) Net54er's dropped by to chat with Jim Rivera and me at our booth this weekend. The attendance on Friday and Sat. appeared less than usual, as a hurricane force Northeaster caused lot's of problems in the area all weekend. TED Z |

It wasn't Scott or I that got the Drum back T205's. It sounds like it was Ron Oser, who is with Legendary. I have had a T205 Drum for quite some time and got him in a trade. But that's on the personal collection side. I don't think we have ever had a Drum T205 in one of our auctions. regards

Hi Ted
I'm pretty sure Nolan Ryan pitched no-hitters in both leagues also (AL-Angels&Rangers; NL-Astros). |

Thanks for posting all those stats on the K's/BB ratio....great stuff.
Bunning's was the 1st pitcher in the modern era (20th Century) to pitch No-Hitters in both Leagues. And, his Perfect game vs the Mets (Father's Day 1964) was the 1st perfect game in 84 years in the National Lge. John Richmond pitched a Perfect game back in June 1880. I forgot about Randy Johnson and Hideo Nomo.....but, they just aint your "vintage dudes" ![]() TED Z Last edited by tedzan; 03-15-2010 at 03:20 AM. |

Most of the OBAK's were from the 1910 175 Subjects series. There are about 30 - 35 cards in this group.

It isn't often anymore that you personally get a chance to check-out a 400+ collection of T-cards that "walked-in" to a BB card show. I yearn for the days (prior to ebay and all these myriad number of auctions) when people walked-in to shows with boxes full of vintage sportscards. When they came to my table, I'd give them a fair assessment of their collection and tell them to walk their cards around to other dealers and get the best price for them. Many times they would return back to my table and we would agree to a deal. After such occasions, I'd wonder......what in the world are these other dealers thinking ? Anyhow, I could fill pages here on many of my experiences. Especially, at the Willow Grove Shows in the 1980's and the Cooperstown Shows in the '80s and '90s. TED Z |

Ted,
great stuff, even if you did not buy the cards, it’s great you shared the story. There is not as much stuff coming into the shows anymore, but still enough to keep it interesting. Thanks Jimmy
