| Dawson HOF As Cub, Expo etc ???

What will be the hat that Dawson will wear on his HOP plaque ? He played 11 seasons with Montreal, 6 with Chicago, 2 with Boston and 2 with Florida. I tried to set up a poll with the 4 choices but it didn't work. Could someone set it up and we can see the results ? Thanks Last edited by insidethewrapper; 01-08-2010 at 07:36 AM. |

I think you might as well set it up with 2 choices, i think everyone on this board is too intelligent to pick Boston or Florida I would say Montreal.

11 years with Montreal and 6 with Chicago. That makes it pretty easy for me. Should be put in as an Expo.

| I would like to see another Cubs cap!

He actually did have some fairly similar stats if you compare his 6 seasons with Cubs vs nearly twice as long with the Expos...the biggest differential was his SBs - disproportionately accummulated in his younger years over more time with the Expos...add to that more attention, his MVP year, etc and a strong case could be made for a Cubs hat.

This could be a case where they just ask Dawson which he prefers.

When he was with the Red Sox, he said he wanted to go into the Hall with a Red Sox cap because he was pissed at the Expos and the Cubs. I believe he then got pissed at the Red Sox. I'm not sure how he feels about the Marlins. Maybe he will go in capless. There are quite a few of those.

I hope he goes in as an Expo as that is how I will always picture him. Goofy red white and blue cap is the image in my mind

Bumping an old thread. HOF goes against Dawson's wishes and says his plaque will wear an Expo cap. He had asked to go in as a Cub. |

| As it should be........

I agree with all of the posters who think he should be going in as an Expo. This is how I always picture him-not in a Cubs uniform(no offense to Cubs fans intended).I guess Montreal left him bitter?? |

| That;s too bad.

I'm a Cubs fan and would liked to have seen it, but it's not a big deal to me. What I think must be awful is to be remembered in a way that is different than what you'd prefer... But then again, I suppose he's just happy to be there!

I like the Expos choice myself but I thought the player had the final word on what uniform he enters the HOF in. I'm a bit ignorant on the matter. Have there been other cases a player requested to go in for one team and the HOF said no, we're putting you in with somebody else? |

| I don't think...

Gary Carter wanted to go in as an Expo, did he? must be odd to be enshrined as a great for a team that no longer exists

(i think) the hall decides what uniform the player would be in, as a result of wade boggs getting xtra $$$$ from tampa in the late 90s if and when he was inducted to go in as a devil ray.

I believe the HOF took away an inductee's right to choose because of persistent reports of incentives offered by teams for a player to choose their cap. Considering the number of multi-team stars that will someday be inducted and the greed of ballplayers this is probably a good policy.
