I've seen this poster in person many times around '89-'90. Even the blue dyed string at the top is in Nm+ condition. Completeley awesome peice, and a privelage to have seen and held as a teenager. I have not spoken to the owner in a dozen years or so, but he is a nice fellow...

Hey Barry if I remember right it was a "Goobers" auction in SF I think. Remember them? There was a stained up one auctioned by Rob in the 90's also.

and Speaker one of my favorite CJs / actually one of my favorite cards in the hobby.

Amazing.

no WaJo..... I guess CJ didn't realize they had created the greatest card in the history of card creation.

Greg- you're absolutely right. It was Goober's. I mix those two up, because I think the two houses worked together in some capacity. Does that sound right?

Barry, If you have the catalogue there are several cards that I consigned to that auction (mint blue s74 Cobb). I can't remember them all. Most stuff in those auctions didn't actually "sell", per say. That was a long time ago...

Lot#3 was an S-74 Colored Silk of Ty Cobb, brown on light blue, with an estimate of $3000-3500.

There was also about eight Ramlys, raw of course, each graded NR MT/MT. What are the chances that if all were submitted today they would receive an 8 grade?

I know alot of the material was purported to sell and didn't; same with Wolffer's. Maybe that is how they worked together, "helping" each other out.

I bought them here in Ottawa / Canada about ten years ago from a guy who used to own a card + comic store.

I asked him a million questins when I bought them as to who brought them in, where are the missing players etc. but he really couldn't recall much unfortunately.

I asked both big grading services if they could give them an A for authentic but both declined. I believe they have to have been the orignial card at some point or something along those lines.

According to their web site - one of the lots will be a group of 592 OJs (reserve $50k). What are the largest lots of OJs ever offered as a single lot?

Interesting..thanks for sharing. You would think with as popular as Cracker Jack was that there would be a lot more of those ad pieces out there. Also one would think you'd see more of those cutout Cobb's since they are perfectly square.

Matt, I've seen big lots offered before in both Mastro and REA, but this has to be the largest grouping by far.

The Copeland Collection had 604 OJ's in one lot, beating this group by a dozen.

But I don't think this is even Rob's biggest grouping. In the mid-90's he offered about 700-800 in one lot. It had an opening bid of around $17,000 and it received exactly one bid. It was loaded with HOFers, spotted ties, Browns Champs, other scarce cards, and nobody wanted it.
