You could make a decent dent in a midsized to small 1920's or 1930's set, and then continue to grow your collection. Of course it depends on whether you are a "set collecting" guy or "type collecting" guy, or perhaps a little bit of both. I keep starting projects only to get about 15-20 cards into a set and then end up putting it on the backburner, sometimes picking it up again later & sometimes abandoning it alltogether. |

If I didnt already have the card, I would buy a 1933 Goudey Ruth maybe SGC30 or PSA 2 ish type grade. I'd Recommend either the Red one #149, my personal fave, or the batting pose (full body DP) #144. Mines an SGC20 but with that Money and this economy i think you could find a 30. Goodluck |

Dave, I appreciate you spreading your hobby knowledge around. In exchange for your kindness, I found an old fashioned Amish butter churn -- in the pre-1930s baseball card section. It's all yours. |

If I may ... Dave, in order to fulfill your hobby duties, I think you're required to start a new thread announcing your find. And, because there are collectors who might want to buy this card but don't have Internet access, you're also required to call them. I'll e-mail you the phone list. |

Ty Cobb bat off shoulder would be first choice but any decent condition Ty Cobb would work. If not pre 33 I would say 33 Gehrig in 4 which have been going for 950-1200. |

I know it's probably sacrilege here on the vintage forum but I would sink it into whatever decent condition Topps set from the 50's up to about 1965 that it would buy. 1964 is one of my favorites. Oh, what fun it would be to have $1,300 in blow money (no, not that kind!). |

David, have you been married for like 6 months? You can ALWAYS find a D304 Chase. And the pair of shoes is just a bad idea. Very bad precedent. |

I've been married for over 26 years. The battle of shoes v. cards is never-ending. And escalation by both sides, is costly. In our family, we've just decided not to ever talk about it. |

I've been married for 4 years. The ratio of instances where I have located a card I need that Andrea feels is more important than a pair of shoes she's identified is horribly skewed in her favor. Of course, this is why the Amex bill comes to my office. Interestingly, it's also why I end up paying for both shoes and cards and reside in a tent in the woods. |
