It's from an interview with Buck in Ken Burns' Baseball. In my opinion, the best of the many great excerpts sprinkled throughout the book. He concludes with the statement, if I live long enough, I'll hear it again. Not sure if he did or not. |

When you think about modern baseball — the huge salaries and artificial turf and television. Do you ever worry that the game might not survive? |

and you're correct Peter. Mathews only homered in 15 straight, but did manage to clip the Boston, and Atlanta Braves as well as Milwaukee of course |

Great job, Jim, however, as I said it was NOT a HOFer. Nap Lajoie was actually the 2nd player to have this done to him. The article you've presented talks only about the 1900s. Need to go back further. |

Hard to believe, but this feat has only happened 4 times in the history of MLB. It nearly happened to Babe Ruth, but he was impatient on the fourth pitch and fouled it off. Ruth was called out for stepping out of the batters box. |

Actually, it may have happened more than that as the intentional walk was NOT kept as an official statistic until 1955. |

Not to bring up an old thread, but to the previous list of four walked intentionally with the bases loaded, add Josh Hamilton, on Sunday 8/17/08. |
