More E254 confusion

Sorry for the continuous posts regarding E254's; but I promise to have the most up to date and correct checklist to share very soon. The contributions from board members have been extremely helpful.

Two poses (profile, full face) exist in the E254 set for Seabaugh (name actually spelled Seabough according to contemporary accounts). The profile pose is listed in the guides as an error (photograph is actually Julius "Doc" Wiseman (spelled incorrectly by Colgan's as Weisman)) who also played for Nashville. The full-face shot is listed as Seabough's correct photo.



Wiseman also has a card in the E254 set. Based on the above description from the guides one would assume that his card would show the profile shot; however Wiseman's card is the front shot.



So who is Wiseman and who is Seabough? Any help would be appreciated.

Edited to add that both players have Series 8 T210 cards; neither for which I have images.

There's more. Wiseman has a portrait shot in the e254 set as well, with yet another spelling--Wiesman. Here's mine:

Now it makes a bit more sense. Both Wiseman's and Seabough's cards were probably issued with the incorrect photos initially then swapped in later prints for the correct image/name match.

Todd, if the guide is correct your Wiseman is probably the corrected version. I would still like to confirm, using either the T210's or a contemporary team photo who is Wiseman and who is Seabaugh.

These are from a 1910 Spalding Guide, and would show 1909 players.








In volume 2 of The Encyclopedia of Baseball Cards, that indispensable and brilliant work by Mr. Lew Lipset, variations in the Colgans are listed, and on page 77 he states that the player looking left is Julius Weisman (correct spelling of name) and the player looking almost straight ahead is James Warren Seabaugh.

I think I have 3 of the 4, maybe only 2, but I can't get at them at the present time. You guys have posted the 4 cards. I don't know if any are less available than others, but would like to know.
