I remember seeing not long ago a post about a player stealing second base with a runner on third to try to get the catcher to throw the ball. it didnt work so the next play he stole first base...pretty funny.

who was that guy???

i told my 15 year old the story yesterday and he got a kick out of it. he asked if it counted as a stolen base? (yeah, he's 15)

2 other Schaefer'ism ---

In game rain soaked game, he felt should be called, but wasn't; he took his position in the outfield in a raincoat, rainboats, and carrying an umbrella.


In the ninth of a tied game, he wasn't in the line-up, but was coaching thrid bae. He was called on to pinch hit. As he walked from the coaches' box to get a bat, he exclaimed: "Ladies and gentleman, the Great Germany Schaefer will now win this game with one swing of the bat!!!" Be it luck, skill, or coincidence, he belts a home run and wins the game. He waves to the fans as he rounds the bases. At home plate, he says to the crowd: "Thank you ladies and gentleman, that concludes today's performance !!!"


.........oh........ and before the stealing first eipisode, there was no rule against it, now there is, because of our friend.....
