I recently picked up a panoramic Fold-out Real Photo postcard of the 1912 Asheville NC Baseball Team. There are several players on this team from the T209 set and it is a really neat item. The manager of the team is identified as "Kling" and based on his appearance I am sure this is Johnny Kling. He played 80 games in the pros this year but does anyone know why he was with Asheville? Did he start the season here or end the season here? Anyone have a guess? I figured this was on topic because it deals with T209 payers and a Postcard issue. |

Johnny Kling managed the Boston Braves in 1912 for the entire season. Maybe it's Kling's Brother Bill? |

All I can say is that the Manager of the Ashville Team of the Appalachian League in 1911 was a fellow named Hobbs. |

I found a record for a Bill Kling which according some sources was Johnny Klings brother and is listed among other Jewish Ballplayers so I am thinking now that it might be him after all. I had looked up the name but did not think to look in the pitcher category of the baseball encyclopedia. |

The guy looks enough like Johnny Kling that it could be his brother. I would bet that it is indeed Bill. |

Bill pitched in 14 games in 1891 and 1892 and 1 inning in 1895. Good luck finding a picture of this guy. |

The 1912 Asheville manager was Rudy Kling, who played shortstop in a handful of games for his hometown St. Louis Cardinals the last week of the 1902 season. He was replaced as Asheville manager part way through the 1912 season by Burt Kite. |

I wonder if Rudy was related to Johnny and Bill? There is a pretty good resemblence there. |

Thanks for the information Tom. This is the same Asheville postcard as the one you have but I think the players were not named on that one. I just barely bought this one and was surprised the players were all named when I got it. Was Rudy Kling related in any way to Johnny or Bill? |

Rhys, not sure if you got the same emails as me this morning, but someone emailed me with information that said that Rudy was not related to Bill and Johnny. |
