It looks like Bill Dineen to me. On a second look it could be George Winter. |

..is get out a Baseball Enclyclopedia, look at Boston team 1909, and then look up all the individual players--and see who weighs much too much for his height...of course, they might lie, like I do! |

since it doesn't resemble Cy. Also, according to the seller, this was a Carl Horner photo from 1900, which means it predates the Boston A.L. team by a year. So you're looking for a Boston National, a team for which Cy Young never pitched. |

Cy Young pitched for the Boston Nationals in 1911, then retired. But that picture is of course not him. |

The seller emailed me back and he still thinks this is Cy Young. He told me to do a google image search of Young. Oh well....buyer beware on this one. |

Some people stick to their guns no matter how many times they are told they are wrong about something. Not only isn't it Cy Young, but there isn't even a vague resemblance. Wearing a jersey that reads "Boston" doesn't automatically qualify you as Young. What a doofus. |

As far as the "Cobb" photo, where is the signature split hand grip ? I considered the fact that the neg.could be reversed, but by 1915 he was well known for his distinct batting grip. |

I e-mailed and e-bay seller that had a print listed as a Maxfield Parrish. She bought it at an estate sale and thats what they told her. The artist was obviously Robert Wood and I politely told her that. She responded that I was mistaken and that the auctioneer was very knowledgeable in this area. |

Talking about sticking to your guns....I emailed a seller that he had listed an outseam playground ball as a 19th Century baseball and I never heard back from him.....the auction went the course without any bids and he relisted it exactly the same way so I emailed him again to tell him that if in fact it was a 19th Century baseball it would have sold the last time he listed it. He emailed me back and said I was very rude. At least this time he changed it to say it was a playground ball and it sold. Sometimes it doesn't pay to try and help people. |

Sounds to me like an atypical scam artist. Instead of getting rude and indigmant, they just act polite and hope that by being nice, you will go away. With so many things being mislabeled, it's hard to believe that this person is being suckered on every item they buy. |
