Default Tough 1933 Goudeys

Posted By: Josh A.

What are some of the tougher to find '33 Goudeys? (just in population, not concerned about high grade at this point) I've noticed that the Hugh Critz, #3, is tough to come across. Anyone else have any experience in this area?

Thanks,
Josh

I think most of the first 12 are hard to find. Also, Andy Cohen (#52) is a tough card.

The stock that was used for cards 1-40 and 45-52 is inferior in quality to the stock that Goudey used later. All of these cards are difficult to find in top condition. Some of the cards (Critz, Cohen?) are especially difficult to find centered due to their position on the production sheet.

I put together most of the set in VG condition (and P-F for most of the big stars) between 1999-2002, just missing the #92 Gehrig (ran out of money, not that it was hard to find) and of course the Lajoie (never had money for that). The cards that I found difficult to get were;

#97 Joe Morrisey
#127 Mel Ott (by far the hardest)
#200 Bill Hallahan
#203 Lonnie Warneke
#224 Frank Demaree
#226 Charlie Moore
#227 Bill Herman

Keep in mind that a common above Ex, a HOF above VG and a Ruth/Gehrig above a Poor would be above my budget. I still seem to recall that the Ott didn't show up much in any condition.

good luck, the 33 Goudey set is my favorite.
