Based on what Lyman & Brett have shown 'til now service wise, wouldn't surprise me if they filtered out addresses they thought would take longer and got them in the mail first. Looks like I caught a bit of the luck of the Irish on this one!

I haven't been this charged about a publication since I first discovered VCBC. This mag is great!

My first issue arrived today....WOW!!! Looks like we got a winner. I won't indulge on it's contents, but I will say that the color pages and the magazine layout gives it a very clean appearance. Kind of reminds me of VCBC, but in color! Happy Readings.

Arrived here in Canada today. Nice touch that it was in it's own mailer. Very similiar to the mock-up at the National, but with ads. Looks like a winner.

Well, I know the gentlemen very well that are putting the magazine out. It looks like their preferred shipping method is leaving something to be desired. I haven't received mine yet and I am just up the road from them (although not sure where the mags are shipping from). I was told about a week ago that mine had shipped. I am sure this will be taken care of much better than the other mag that has distribution issues. I am really looking forward to it and hope, as ya'll have noted it is in somewhat covert wrappings, that I didn't chunk it in the garbage by accident...regards all

ps...got the new Mastro one too...should make collectors happy ....

Gee, guys (and gals), Brett and I have never felt so missed. Believe me, we are as anxious to get the inaugural issue of Old Cardboard into your hands as you seem to be to receive it. Perhaps a few words about our distribution schedule will help reduce a little of the stress.

Old Cardboard Magazine is published quarterly and mailed (from Austin, TX) so that it will reach the subscriber about the middle of the first month in each calendar quarter (i.e., January 15, April 15, July 15 and October 15). For the record, we take our schedule VERY seriously. Because USPS guidelines for mailing the magazine are 10-14 days (US and Canada), we will always ship around the first of the month of issue to meet our promised schedule. Our first issue is no exception and was mailed early last week--a few days ahead of schedule. With a little luck, most subscribers will receive their copies later this week.

As always, we sincerely appreciate your support and hope that you enjoy Issue #1. We always welcome feedback from members of this board and consider the board a rich source of authors for future issues. Please send you article ideas to editor@oldcardboard.com.

I am an advertiser and I did get special treatment. My special treatment is that I haven't received mine yet either in Maryland but have received a few calls on my ad. The first gentleman will not be a repeat customer when I asked him "What ad are you talking about?". By not having it myself, I completely forgot about it. Anyway, I have a feeling that the other pub will be in trouble. This product should be exceptional. Dan.

Actually I was joking about advertisers not receiving special treatment. It just didn't come off as such on my post.
Old Cardboard's calender said the publication date was October 15th. Given what we're used to with VCBC if it comes by Thanksgiving I'd consider it to be a success- but I'm sure it will be in hand by the middle of this month.

I'm happy and shocked. I got mine yesterday here in Southern California. I usually get my SCD about 10 days late, with the next issue often passing the previous one. My VCBC usually arives about 6-8 weeks after Julie gets hers (FedEx, I know, but 6-8 weeks for regular mail is nuts). I can't believe I wasn't dead last!

I received mine today and enjoyed it, they did a nice job. I don't feel it is anything over and above VCBC but if it comes on schedule that would be a big bonus.

One of the things we all have to remember is that we can contribute to these publications, the more we offer the more content. The better the mag. And my guess in VCBCs case the quicker it comes out.

One thing that did bother me is the profile of the 10 year as a collector with almost a complete T206. It is great that a 10 year is interested in the heritage of the baseball cards and baseball. But, There is no way a kid of that age can do enough chores to be able to buy the cards. He obviously comes from a wealthy family. I think most of us have earned most of the money we spend on our cards. To me this is just a profile of a rich kid getting what he wants.

That's my beef.

....I hope to be able to share my collection with my child, and if they ever want to do a story on him he'll be the 2 year old with a near complete T206 collection. His favorite card will be the Matty Dark Cap.

In fact, as soon as he's in the crib, I'm going to take a picture of him drooling all over one.

but I did get two nice books - I highly recommend "The Game That Was", featuring George Brace photos. I got it for $4 (hard-cover,shrink-wrapped) on ebay, but anywhere up to $40 would be reasonable (out of print).
