Cards that have guest appearances by other identifiable players

My posting on another thread of this Sam Jones R316 Kashin card that also features Goose Goslin in the dugout inspired me to create this thread. Show your guest appearance examples.

I found a few m114s with cameos the biggest name being Pee Wee Reese, but my favorite is actually the uncaring usher with the two photobomber kids.

1956 Topps includes two cards with different paintings of the same action shot, #91 Gail Harris and #171 Jim Wilson, likely as a production mistake for two cards that occupied the same spot on series one and two print sheets.

The repainted #1 scooting under a high throw appears to be either Richie Ashburn (red cap) or Pee Wee Reese (blue cap), with Giants first baseman Whitey Lockman as the actual fielder shown. Went into more detail on this here: https://www.number5typecollection.co...wilson-if.html

Manager's dream is my favorite - Mickey and Willie are highlighted, but Aaron and Banks are very visible in the background. '69 All-Stars also have a good bit of these

The card in question. It looks like Elston Howard just over Mickey's shoulder.

On the back of many of those cards are also "guests" the backside of thr 1968 All Star Bob Gibson has Pete Rose for example.

And I would surmise that the other 2 players are Hank Aaron and Ernie Banks; it must have been an All Star Game.

Look, don't want to be 'that guy,' but it's not Ernie Banks shooting the sh*t with Hammerin' Hank back there, it is #8 Johnny Roseboro (presumably at the 1961 All-Star Game).

I believe you are correct. I accepted that was Ernie without looking at the number on the jersey. It appears to be Johnny Roseboro as you said.

I figure that not much is around in the prewar category. The only thing that comes to mind is the E92 Dockman (etc...) of Davis and Schmidt, and that is kinda cheating, as we only know the identity of the non-featured player because different portions of the same image were used to create both cards.

Anyone think of other prewar cards?

(Sorry not Pre-War) but I have always wondered about the 1956 Topps #247 card of Bill Sarni. It shows a stern faced African American Dodger sliding hard into home plate. Is it Jackie Robinson? Junior Gilliam? Other? Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. It would be really cool if the consensus is that it's Jackie.

1970's-80's hockey cards are wonderful for extra players. What I love most of all is when I discover a player in the background who never had a card of his own. These guys are always thrilled when I send them some to be signed and some they can give to family and friends. After 50 years in some cases, they had been unaware they appeared on a card, albeit someone else's!

Intriguing. I have provided an image of this card. Perhaps someone has a super crisp image that they could share as well. The player's face definitely could be Jackie's. That slide screams "Jackie" to me.

Here is a photo I found of Jackie sliding. To me it looks incredibly similar style of slide, and a pretty good match to the facial features of shown on the card.

There are quite a few in the N172 Old Judge set, some name both players and some don’t.

Surprised the 1960 Topps "World Series Game 5" card with Maury Wills (unnamed) manning 2nd while Luis Aparicio steals a base hasn't been mentioned yet.

That's 3 years before his 1963 Fleer "RC" and 7 years before his "first" 1967 Topps card.

The card-by-card 1956 blog is a great help on most cameo players from its set. In this case, it's Jim Gilliam out at home on 5/5/1955!

Nice...Jackie must have taught Junior how to slide! Here is the exact photo of Gilliam sliding that was used on the Sarni card. So the 1956 Topps Bill Sarni card still belongs on this thread.

You are so right. The ones that only name one player would be perfect for this thread.

Pictured below is one that is almost perfect for this thread, as it pictures player George Shoch and manager/umpire John Gaffney.
