Hello Net54 baseball members. I'm a brand new member here, and have joined in hopes of finding someone with very good knowledge of the 1950's Redman Baseball card and cap promotion. I am seeking information about the number of caps and teams that were available. As you may guess, there is very little information on the internet and have even reached out to the Tobacco company for any old archive information they may have.
The reason I ask is that I have somewhere around 15-20 authentic Redman caps that were given to me by my father recently with permission to sell or auction them. I don't know if they represent an entire set, 2 sets, or almost a complete set of these caps. Although I'm not a hardcore baseball fan, like I'm sure many members here are, I also "didn't just fall off the turnip truck". Hopefully some kind soul will help me with this quest for information. If this should be moved to a different forum thread, please let me know. Thank you for any information. |

Hello for your first question. There were 16 teams in the Major Leagues during the time Redman issued the caps. They were issued over a few years so it is possible that there are variations. But I would think most would call 16 different a complete set.
They are identified by the Redman inscription on the underside of the cap. There was a discussion of these here in 2012. Search for that it has some information although prices discussed are 13 years old. My suggestion is you post pictures of the caps. Maybe one big group shot and under cap shots of a couple. ( if you take pictures with phone, take a photo with alot of extra space on all 4 sides then use edit to shrink the photo so it will load here. Because Net54 has photo size limits that current phones exceed. Good luck and feel free to post any other questions with the photos. Jonathan |

I just did a quick search and 17 caps with 3 original envelopes just sold by REA this spring. Given the sale price they got just a couple months ago. I would say Prices don't look like they changed much over the last 13 years. I included pics from REA site.
First is some of the caps, second the Redman stamp and third an original shipping envelope. Good luck... |

There are many variations, not only with the changing logos of the teams that moved between 1953 and 1955 (Braves, Browns and A's), but also with the colors. I have a photo somewhere that shows this — I'll post it if I can find it. If you can share photos of everything, that will be a big help.
