Does anyone have any helpful tips on how to remove old cork liners from the inside of the collectible Coke caps?
For those that know about the caps, but not sure about the cork; Some of the caps, maybe due to the bottling location, used cork as liners instead of the more common clear plastic ring. Remove the cork, and there lies the baseball (or football) player. I just picked up a large lot of caps and most have bits of cork still stuck to the inside. I'd like to hear if anyone has had success on disolving the cork and adhesive without damaging the image of the player. Last edited by CowboysGuide; 11-04-2012 at 07:02 AM. |

Hi-
I have never replied to a 13 year old thread before but I have the exact same question. I am guessing there is no easy way but I figured I would ask just in case. Has anyone had any luck removing cork from the inside of the Coke caps? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. Alan |

My few 1968 caps with cork I just lifted the sides enough to know the player and put a note inside.
The ones I have without cork that should have it are scratched pretty badly. |

Thank you Steve! I was worried that was the answer but I figured I would check. I can tell who the players are (multiples of Mays and Olivia) but the cork covers most of their images.

It might be possible to remove th cork carefully. I've just never tried.
The ones I have without cork were probably done by kids. If I was going to try I'd go slow, and maybe use a bit of heat to see if that helps the glue soften. |

You could try Goo Gone or another citrus-based adhesive solvent. I've used it to remove the very heavy glue and paper residue on the back of the '52 Wheaties tins and it worked great.

Not sure it would work but I would think steaming would remove.

Thank you guys! I ended up selling the lot to a friend for what I paid so someone else will have to try those methods. I really appreciate all of the help and if I get any similar ones I will definitely try these suggestions.
