Auction house selling a pennant it describes as “quite clean overall”.

At least we now know Emmett Kelly’s real name is Ricky

It's hard to to choose just one...but I've always been partial to simple, bright graphics like this 1960 ASG pennant

Looks like that 1914 version of the Brewers pennant might feature the original inspiration for the Barrel Man???

Default PCL Pennants

And here are some PCL pennants.

1. 1949 SF Seals Tour of Japan. Each Seals player got one with their name on it, all stitched on, very beautifully done.
2. 1930s Oakland Oaks
3. Hollywood Stars late 40s-early 50s
4. Hollywood Stars late 40s-mid 50s

Those are some incredible minor league pennants. I think this may be the first time most, if not all, have been shown in this thread.

Awesome rare beauties, Dave! Some likely one of a kind examples there.

And let's not overlook that great name "Dick Drilling". If he was born in a different era, he could've been an Adult Film Star.

I looked him up, he had a long minor league career. Don’t ask what the next two google search results were …

Haha, thanks Mark & all. I got that Seals tour pennant directly from Dick Drilling around 30 years ago. I think he may have preferred emphasis on his last name when his name was said.

Here are a handful more, including some more PCL.

1. Calgary Western Canada League, 1910s-20s
2. Billings, MT age unknown
3. San Francisco Seals, PCL, 1940s-50s
4. Sacramento Solons, PCL, 1950s
5. Seattle Rainiers, PCL, 1950s common design, but tough to find as Rainiers

One of my new arrivals, 1940s Orioles. NI've only found one other online so I think it's pretty rare. I love the bright colors. I'm hoping the experts here can help shed a little light on it for me.

Love the unusual font and how the graphic reminds me of the crossed bat pinbacks.

Cannot add much, other than it's likely one of their first-ever pennants. I have it with green felt. Yours is a beauty!

Picked up this little Phillies mini pennant this week. The full-size version of the same pennant is listed in the book as very rare so I figured the mini one must be rare as well. Condition is not great, but it’s still displays nicely.

Speaking of bins ... finally found the perfect-sized shelves so I don't have to stack them all on top of each other, also a perfect fit under the pool table ...

That’s some great organization. 👍

I’m so jealous of you guys and your “bins.”

The first team page on FeltFootball.com to reach 100 pennants belongs to...the New York Giants...thanks to this rarity.

Per the Dec 23, 1966 issue of Time Magazine...

Then there was New York's Allie Sherman. Last week, as he gazed around Yankee Stadium, what to his wondering eyes should appear—blue-and-white pennants, thousands upon thousands of them, all emblazoned "Goodbye Allie." The fans even put the words to music with a roaring choir to the tune of Goodnight, Ladies. This never bothered Sherman; he told reporters that his pro philosophy was "They paid their money, and can do what they want," and joked that he owned the rights to the banners and song and made a fortune in royalties.

Thanks, Greg. I need to take some measurements where I might be able to stash one.

Appreciate you listing. I’ve been looking for a way to store my pennants too that are sitting on top of a shelf. Looks like a great solution.

Since it's Super Bowl Sunday and all...

Watching this badly faded, early 1970s (not 1960s as described) Raiders pennant eclipse $2,000 got me to thinking. What is the early 1970s baseball equivalent? If there is one, I've never seen it. I'm not sure I've seen a 1970s baseball pennant sell for more than $200-$300...if that.

IMG_7820.jpg

Then I got to thinking...If we listed the 10 most valuable pennants of the first half of the 20th century, they'd all be baseball. No surprise there. But what if we listed the 10 most valuable pennants of the second half of the 20th century. Would they all be football? The rise in popularity of football is attributed to the 1950s and often to the "Greatest Game Ever Played", but has anyone ever noticed that's where the pennant value tipping point occurs too?

What are the baseball pennants post say 1956 that approach $2000 in value? The only that come to mind would be the 3D pennants but are those post 1956? Below are the early bookends to big money football pennants with the Raiders above likely the modern one. I know there are multiple factors that play into this but it's still very interesting to me that if you're talking big money pennants of the last 70 years, you're largely talking about football pennants.

^^^ The seller, who has been around forever, described the color as “very bright.” He also charged $32 shipping.
