Default Trivia Challenge: What Happened on...

June 2, 2012 in a game between the Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies that has not happened since and may not ever happen again?

Only thing I can think of would be Unassisted Triple Play?

or something like 2 players hit for the cycle in the same game or doubleheader.

Justin Ruggiano hit a double in the 4th inning scoring Morrison.

He never knocked in Morrison again.

Roy Hobbs hits a towering Home Run and knocks the lights out and short circuits the entire electrical system in the stadium. Seeing as this happened on the watch of former Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria, it was decided a repair of the electrical system would not be cost effective, so the remaining schedule of home games would be played only in daylight hours. In addition, all promotional giveaways for the rest of the year would be glossy headshots of Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas from their "Miami Vice" days, found by a park employee in large vault, deep in the bowels of a secret room in the Stadium marked "Wayne Huzienga - Blockbuster Overstock - Open Only In Case of Emergency".

Am I close?

Default I can't stand the suspense any longer, so here's the answer:

Jimmy Rollins led off the 8th with a triple...it was his first triple of the year and 100th of his career, making him the most recent and perhaps last player to amass that many triples in a career.

The opposing shortstop in this game, Jose Reyes, had hit his 100th on April 8th. and fielded Rollins' popup to end this particular game.

100th Triples

Jimmy Rollins (115) 2012
Jose Reyes (131) 2012
Carl Crawford (123) 2010
Kenny Lofton (116) 2006
Steve Finley (124) 2003
Lance Johnson (117) 1997
Willie Wilson (147) 1987

Hmmm, you might be right. Nobody active is even close but I think somebody else will get there eventually. Bobby Witt Jr., and Corbin Carroll might have a chance, but it will probably be 10 years or so before they get there if they stay healthy.

I think the rise of analytics will make it hard for anyone to get there. 1) Teams really don't want players to risk being thrown out, and 2) Even the most talented speedsters now stop being as aggressive on the bases once it's clear that their bat is a major asset.
