Default W572 Daubert w/ Neilson's Chocolate Back

Is this just a random stamp on the back of this W572? Nefarious? Thoughts? It didn't cost much from a very good hobby friend, so no big deal either way.

(It doesn't fluoresce under a blacklight, Frank W. )

After a quick bit of research, using Google + Net54, it does look like these stamps were done recently to deceive. I had even commented a few times in the thread but that was 14+ yrs ago...

I believe Bob Lemke exposed this fraud back in the day.

I have one as well. My understanding is that these were added to the backs of legit W572s in an effort to defraud (Alan Hager??). Even PSA’s website write-up on this set mentions this.

I didn’t know that the w572s themselves may not have been legit either. That concerns me that your example doesn’t fluoresce under black-light. I believe mine would fluoresce given that it’s in a PSA holder, but given that the PSA grader(s) missed the fraud entirely and graded this as a 1923 Neilson’s, I suppose all bets are off!!

I bought this many years ago (already graded) before I knew of the fraud.

I don’t think PSA would be all that pleased that this card (in their plastic) is floating around out there.

I bought on of these in the 1990’s. From an antique paper. When I took it to the Plymouth mi. Card show, learned it was fake. Not sure ho told me, it Bill Mastro might have been that person. Got my money back.

They don't look stamped, appear to be printed, would like to see one in hand...bring it to the show..

These Neilson's W572 cards have always appeared to be authentic W572 cards to me. I will assume it is just believed that the back 'printing' was added post-production, and thus causes the red flags to fly.

Hmmmm, I dunno. There are other instances of cards issued by one company being subsequently stamped on the back by another company:

Beaton's Bars - Bobby Burrell: SportsCollectorsDaily

Beaaton's Dairy Products was established in 1928 several years after the 1924-25 Paterson Hockey cards.

Below is that 14 year old thread that Leon mentioned. In it a variety of experienced hobbyist chimed in, and most conclusive is the last post in the thread by Bob Lemke, who investigated and wrote a SCD article about this subject, and Bob even implicates the likely culprit behind these Neilson's W572 cards.

Thanks Brian! Good to see mind isn’t failing me (yet) as I had mentioned Hager as the likely culprit (post 3).

And here’s the PSA article mentioning these forgeries:
