Default T204 TTT backs (how rare are they?)

I made a recent pickup of a T204 with a TTT back. I knew that the TTT back was rarer than the Ramly's so I was happy to pick this up.

I think the set looks great and I love that it's embossed. But I'm a novice when it comes to the T204 set. I could do with some help to understand exactly what I have here.

Default One of 40

I remember seeing Lew Lipset in St Louis at a show maybe around 1980 with about 40 T204s in an album….. only one as I recall had the TTT back. Just my experience…..

Less than 2-3% of the T204's are found with TTT backs. When old time complete sets were offered in the 1990's-early 2000's(which was very few) they would normally have 3-4 cards in the entire 121 set with TTT backs.

At this time only about half of the T204's are verified to exist with TTT backs. There is debate about whether all of the subjects were made or not made with the TTT backs. I feel they probably were and so scarce due to low production and attrition that the other half have not yet been found. O'leary is one of the confirmed subjects.

These are one of my favorite backs, have had only a handful of them over the years - so yes they can be tough to get - they are out there if you want to pay $$$- square and blank backs are tougher within the set, so do your research on specific players and pops - cools stuff!

The King of the Hill.... One of one Johnson. Which ties right into the David Festberg thread. I bought this RAW in one of his auctions in the mid to late 1990's. David called me the morning after the auction to let me know I had won and I think he was more excited than I was! Paid a small fortune back then, now a mere pittance in the scheme of things.

Nice! One of only three TTT boxes to exist as far as I know. Was very lucky to have a board member sell me his a long time ago...

GREAT Box! Thank you!

Truth be told, my Pa found mine at a Garage Sale and likely paid "nothing" for it. He gave it to me for Xmas and NEVER said what he paid.

Rarity notwithstanding, it's a TREASURE for me and it will likely never be sold until I'm ashes - (Sorry Jon!)

My Pa had a GREAT eye for stuff but had NO IDEA what things were worth either! So, he would haggle just because...

He had the ULTIMATE "Poker Face" when he bought it!

Didn't mean to hijack this thread either...

There are several varieties of the Ramly box produced over several years. I believe after seeing at least two boxes containing cards, that the one with the Mentor Company line similar to the TTT box shown is the one that contained the T204's

Nice card. Eventually, I want to get another one.
Scott's TTT Johnson isn't too bad either.

Scott,

Is Cicotte confirmed as one of the confirmed TTT backs?

Best,
Matt Eppers

Cicotte is not on the confirmed list. Would like to see a scan if someone has one.
