Excited. I just picked up this nifty 1923 Edd Roush card. It says Eddie on the card (and on the case) yet his actual name was Edd not short for Edward. I'm guessing "Eddie" was his nickname? Interestingly his middle name was the letter J (not a full middle name like James).
Some cool Edd Roush stats ... A career .318 hitter in 18 years as a pro and star of the 1919 World Series Champion Cincinnati Reds who defeated the Chicago "Black Sox". Throughout his life Roush would state that the Reds were the better team, and would have won the Series either way. Please show us your Edd Roush cards/memorabilia if you got'em. ![]() |

Edd had a long career, ranging from 1913 to 1931, but overall his cards, compared to many Prewar HOF'ers, are somewhat tougher to come by because his playing career fell between the 1910 era card glut (T206 etc.) and the early 1930's gum cards (Goudey etc.).
Here is a 1922 E121 Series of 120 card of Edd that has been cut down to just his image, with multiple duplicate diecut layers beneath glued together, to give it some 3D depth after being pasted onto 1/8" thick paperboard. It is a E121 Series of 120 and not a Series of 80 card because his position is identified as 'OF' instead of 'CF' (just a little schoolin' for some of you all). Brian |

I just noticed that the artist for the W515 card probably based his artistic depiction of Edd from the same photo of Roush that was utilized in the E121 set (which is also seen in a number of other sets from the era as well).

Edd's parents were from the Harry S. Truman school of child-naming.

Nice cards, everyone! Brian, I really like the few known H-to-H cards that don't have paper loss on the backs.

I always laughed at the constant use of "Ed.". Was it such a time saver to abbreviate the second d?

No love for the 1915 CJ? First and last name are both incorrect:
