Default Can anyone explain this price ask? (M116 related)

I'm used to seeing wacky four-figure ebay prices on M116 commons, but at least they are usually high-grade. Did the seller mistakenly add a zero? because it's at least $1200 overpriced. Shucks, a Reulbach in PSA 5.5 sold in REA in May for $120...

$1350 for a PSA 2 M116 Reulbach is expensive, possibly an error since Dean's has an SGC 5.5 BIN listed for $480.

Maybe the consigner wants to get lucky by taking advantage of all the centering obsessed collectors out there, because in my non-OCD eyes this one looks pretty well centered.

I think they added a 0 after 135 accidentally.

Perhaps, but modern day living wouldn't be complete without some doofus throwing in a hand conspiracy grenade.

I sent the seller (COMC) a message asking about the starting price of this card.
They sent this response.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting COMC! We are a consignment service that helps independent sellers list their cards online. While we curate, store, and ship their cards, it is the sellers who own and price the items, meaning COMC has no control over pricing, even for bulk purchases.

COMC does not accept offers on our cards through our eBay storefront. Currently all prices (including S&H) are considered firm, and we do not offer channels of communication between buyer and seller, even with COMC as an intermediary.

Please let us know if you have any further questions!

Tim, I understand your bemusement.
Here is a Weil Baking card that the Ebay seller has listed at $3999.99:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/37551734596...&segname=11304
It's worth about 5% of that price, maybe a bit more if you hit the right buyer at the right time. I thought he might have mis-entered the price, so I made him a $200 offer. He countered by coming down to $3399.99. He has another Weil card two grades lower for $250.00, so I have no idea why he thinks Dutch Leonard is worth so much. Oh well, in this market it only takes one or two loons with more dollars than sense, but I suspect that card ain't moving soon.

That is a wonderful canned response you got that makes absolutely no sense.

I sent a message a few days ago to my good friend and forum member, Rich Klein (hi Rich) about this. He works for them so if it isn't taken down yet, or fixed, you know COMC must have some internal issues. I think I met the owner a few a times and he seems like a great guy. But as companies get bigger things can easily fall through the cracks and/or customer service slips.

You can send offers through the COMC website.

You cannot send an offer through the eBay interface though. They mark the price up slightly when things are cross-listed from COMC to eBay.
