Default What is the pre-war buzz card at the moment?

For a while it was Gehrig Rookie, Jackie Bond Bread, Ruth Goudeys, Titus hair, . . . sure many others.

Is there a pre-war card at the moment that's on an absolute tear? Can't think of one of the top of my head. Not slow steady appreciation but something that's gone nutsy crazy in last 6-9 months?

1915 Cracker Jacks certainly seem to be following in their older brothers' footsteps

Cracker jacks at large. Everyone seems to want one (or many).

I do not feel like there is an "IT" card at the moment.

I will say Jack Glasscock Allen and Ginters. Big prices lately and it has me wondering if there’s a strong sentiment he finally gets in.

Seems like Mathewson cards have softened more than most as of late. I've noticed a drop in T206 Matty's compared to W. Johnson's. Is Matty falling out of favor, or is he just not quite the big enough name for most collectors?

Any notice grades within a player doing better? For instance PSA 2 & 3's vs 4 & 5's vs 6 & 7's - which sub group doing the best or worst?

The 1947 Bond Bread Jackie (rounded corners) has been so far and few in the news. Such a low pop with a lot of room to run.

Whatever happened to the T206 scrap craze? There was a time when it seemed like half the threads on the front page were about T206 printing oddities.

T206 as a whole have really died off. The juice is out of that market.

Don't know about that. It seems when the best T206s get sold they command good money. I agree the Cobby's have gone down a little bit but I don't watch the others.

Right now, Cracker Jacks seem to be in the sunlight.

It didn’t help that seemingly EVERY month for the past three years has had a full T206 Set broken up auctioned off.

I can't remember a time, since I started collecting, when Cracker Jacks were NOT in the sunlight. My biggest regret is not picking up Shoeless Joe years ago, when I had the chance. But I can't complain too much having picked up many '15s years ago. They will never grow old--most beautiful set ever made, IMO.

It makes sense to me that a lot of t206s are down. There are just so many of them. I've never felt the need to jump on some of the higher value ones because I know there will be seventeen of them in the next auction (and then the auction after that).

Definitely 1914 Cracker Jacks. The supply is so low and has been for months.

And heavily stained 1915's that allow sunlight to pour through them are just as hot as they have ever been!

I do notice a lot of T206's hitting the market. Along with what seems to be a half dozen Aaron RC's, Koufax RC's, many early Mantle's, Ryan RC's and other vintage mid/high grade major HOFers that can all be in the same auction. The prices still seem strong and the market apparently is able to absorb all this seemingly rarer vintage/pre-war. A lot of supply, but also a lot of demand I guess.

If you look closer, the copies that have great centering and other eye appeal aspects are in the minority. Seems like those are the ones commanding strong prices. And the lesser eye appeal cards might be down thus lending support to the claim, "prices are now soft."

M116's, particularly the Wagner and Cobb blue, have been receiving a lot of attention of late.

Which "a hole" said that?

I have to admit this hits close to home, because I have fully embraced that "a hole" collecting lifestyle.

Apparently, the hot card is any card on my wishlist that I'm bidding on in an auction...

I’ve noticed the 1935 chicle bronco Nagasaki has been moving up every auction over last couple years. Can’t gauge monthly since it’s so rare very few come up. Not baseball but definitely a must have for serious football collectors

Absolutely. And if I ever go to sell it seems the card isn't in as much demand as it was when I bought it. That said I don't speculate too much, except on type cards....such as

It's kind of hard to price a card like this (shown many times). It's pretty much whatever is good for both parties, I guess. It's not a big value card but not a few hundred either. I was happy to acquire it from another board member at a show.
