Hi everyone. About a year ago I fell back in love with baseball cards after a 40 year hiatus (I’m 52). In addition to set building some classics, I’ve also gotten into Negro league collecting and more specifically collecting playing days cards (and premiums) of Negro leaguers.
One of the runs are the 87 who played in the major leagues. I’m getting down to the last few. Here’s the question — I have a 1956 Seattle Popcorn 8x10 Milt Smith Premium. When I sent to PSA they sent back a comment that because they cannot find a checklist they cannot authenticate / verify it? From some basic web searches, these were absolutely a thing but I cannot find a checklist. Any thoughts? |

Welcome back aboard the card collecting boat. Here is a link to the Trading Card Database site that has a checklist for the set:

Thanks Brian it's fun to be back! That checklist is for the 2x3 card but not the 8x10 premiums. Can't seem to find the premium checklist.
It looks as though PSA will do 8x10 or other large size sets but they require a checklist. I will keep hunting and try to get them on the phone. |

Oops, I guess I am only good for 2 x 3" cards. Here's some good luck coming your direction for some checklist info on the 8 x 10 cards.

I believe they are listed in the Standard Catalog, which of course is no longer being printed.

The Seattle Popcorn 8x10 Premiums were a redemption item from the small 2”x3” cards. If you look at the back of the 1956-1958 cards it has some details on how you obtained them.
I have never seen a formal checklist for them but they tend to parallel the small cards and I have always collected them by just trying to get as many as I can! 🤣 They are pretty tough and often found in poor shape. I have a few hundred different over the entire span of the issues…probably one of the larger collections of them although I know some of the Seattle specialists have more! Here are a few of the ones I have from the earlier years (including another Smith) -Rhett
