Default What's it worth - for fun.

There is a generational discussion going on between my kids, myself, and my father on our Satchel Paige '49 Leaf card. It was acquired for less than $1k at auction, and as you can see it is missing a couple things, like borders. That said, a Satch that was missing a corner sold for $12k at REA. There is a PSA 2 on eBay right now for $20k with a week left, which prompted the discussion.

I'm thinking $2k, doubled up, my dad has it at $1k because of it's unique and over zealous crop job, and the kids think they are going to retire off of it, because they are in their 20's an know everything.

What's says the group?!

I think you're undershooting it a bit.

This is the kind of condition that the vast majority of collectors are looking for to complete the set. I wouldn't be surprised if this does something around $3000-$5000.

Default Just me

I will buy cards like this but not for anywhere near $1000. Maybe $100 for me. I know others will disagree but that’s my personal limit . If you can get $1000 plus I’d say you did quite well. The market will decide if you ever opt to let it go. Great memory for you though no matter what.

The ear infection bothers me more than the trimming.

I actually did not notice that on my original estimated price, I'd probably go toward the lower end now.

Ear infection is a good way of putting it for sure. We affectionately refer to it as character. HA!

That's exactly why I picked it up, to finish the set. I said jokingly while I was working on the set that I would take a corner of a Satch card, ironically, I got a card that had all the corners removed!

Still a good buy at $1K. Did you finish the set?

Yes indeed, a set to pass down to the kids....hence their interest in the values!

Thank you, it was a lot of fun, and a helluva lot cheaper a couple years ago to do it. Not sure there is an easy lift for set builders anymore.

Unless you are cool with 1988 topps.
