Default Mailday Surprise

Among other things I collect original Cardinals team photos. I recently won a 1943 pic on Ebay. No big deal, not necessarily rare or terribly valuable. In fact I was the lone bidder at $15. It arrived in the mail today . . . in the original 80-year old mailing envelope from Charles C. Spink & Son. The seller simply slapped an Ebay mailing label on it. I guess the cancelled 11 cent stamp would have been insufficient. I wonder what my mailman thought?

Are you serious? That is ridiculous.

Here's a scan of the envelope. I was able to remove the Ebay mailing label without too much damage. Underneath it was the original recipient's address.
The photo was in tremendous shape. My scanner cut off the borders but they are intact.

Great pickup for 15 bucks. Even with the treatment of the original envelope.

Nice 11 cent James Polk stamp from the 1930's Presidential Series of stamps.
But, awesome picture!
