Anyone have fun ideas for a good pre war card to spend around 1k on? Something in lower grade. Would be cool to see what great cards can still be had at that price

So give us a few basics of your wantlist and we'll all take it from there and flood your inbox , after we all get back to the real world on Tuesday ; E.G. , years preferable or acceptable , player or team , set , condition boundaries , etc. etc.........wild hunch but might that tax refund just be burning a hole in your pocket.? LOL: Join the club . I've found myself lingering more than is prudent looking at my E-Bay "watchlist" of cards which I would not otherwise be rationally considering. Good hunting. .. |

If we are talking investment, at that price point you would be better off going a bit postwar and picking up a nice Jackie Robinson card. if sentiment, just buy whatever card of a player you enjoy and want to have for a long time.

I’m on the same thought path as Adam but I think Robinson cards have already appreciated a lot. I would say a nice Larry Doby card. He broke the color barrier in the AL only a little after Robinson and had a stellar career. I think his contribution to baseball will become more appreciated in the future and the value of his cards will pop.

If you're merely looking for a blue-chip-investment-opportunity-with-the-potential-for-a-great-ROI, I'm sure others will chime in with a list of cards. If you're looking to collect pre-war cards, it might be better to figure out what speaks to you before dropping a grand on something.

You should be able to get a nice Greenberg Diamonds Stars for that. That would be my choice. A visually stunning and widely collected issue and Greenberg is arguably the biggest star in the set. With a little shopping you should be able to find one with good eye appeal in the $1000 range.

Im thinking maybe I'll save and wait to try to get a low grade t206 cobb? Really like those and have been sticking with collecting with t206's. I was thinking that or a card of a hard to find hall of famer would be cool? Any ideas for that? Like someone without a ton of cards from their playing days.

And absent, or maybe as an adjunct to that, one that is not in a mainstream, overly collected set. Seems everyone has Goudey or T206 cards. Maybe go for something in conjunction with the first part of my answer that is in a not so popular, highly collected set. Like maybe a 1921-30 Major League Die-Cut, a German Transfer, a Postaco or Rinkydink Stamp, a BF2 pennant, an M101-2 Sporting News Supplement, or something that not everyone else seems to have and collect so when you do go to show and share it with others, the initial response may be, "Oh wow, I've never seen one of those before!" |

Probably pick up a DiMaggio 41 Play Ball for around there. Always going to be an all time card.

1952 Berk Ross Jackie Robinson Card I know it is not pre-war but it is close and it is an iconic player which as a player and as a set has been under appreciated

A Lajoie with bat T206 is also a nice card within budget for a low grade with eye appeal.

I would go with a Matty T206 as well. They seem “relatively” cheap to me.

I would probably go for a T205 PSA 1 Walter Johnson or Cy Young, maybe a T205 PSA 3 Tris Speaker, or a 1941 Play Ball Ted Williams in 2 or 3.

I bought my 1.5 Kashin Ruth for $1500. I might have overpaid, but the seller worked with me while I sold some cards to make the payment. So it was worth it to me at that point.
