I think this is the first REA auction where they have high minimum bids. Thoughts?

REA's Internet only section would be the top 10 cards for quite a few auction houses: 1915 Cracker Jacks of Jackson and Cobb, Sport Kings Ruth in a 5, Goudey Ruth in a 5, Goudey Ruth in a 3, T206 red Cobb with a Sov 350 back in a 4, six Ruth Fro Joys. It goes on and on.

Great stuff….too much stuff? How would you feel consigning one of 12 red cobbs (notwithstanding that life could be worse!)? Or one of 7 71 Topps sets? I don’t even have the energy to go through the whole auction…..and yet it doesn’t have much of what i am looking for for my sets unfortunately. Stuck some bids in early just in case….

Cards for sale: https://www.flickr.com/photos/185900663@N07/albums

I am actively buying and selling vintage sports cards graded and raw. Feedback as a buyer: https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=297262

I am accepting select private consignments of quality vintage cards (raw or graded) and collecting "want" lists for higher end ($1K+) vintage cards.

Time for Jolly to give us a new acronym:

TNSTATMS!

There’s no such thing as too much stuff!

I guess that's a risk consignors take, because you wouldn't expect an auction house to turn away top material.

As plentiful as that card is, waiting to be the only Red Cobb in an auction, you'll be waiting a long time.

Honestly why I stopped focusing on cards some time ago. Some of these cards are about as rare and seldom seen as a 2021 Toyota Prius.

Wow, a ton of amazing cards up for auction there.
I put 40-50 of them in my watch list...will probably bid on 5-10...will hope to win 1-2.

Yeah I thought the same thing when I did a search for T206 Cobb. So so many of them.

Just checked...there are actually 16 T206 red background Cobb cards listed individually. I guess as a bidder it is nice to have choices...?

Lots of Supply in all Major Auctions along with Lots of Demand From Bidders….the good stuff will continue to sell strong. The Bidders have a lot of money and want the cards, that’s not stopping

I haven’t heard or seen anyone say screw Cobb cards I’m done nope they all still want them and most will spend for the one they want.

I guess as collectors we’re just channeling our inner Bob Wiley:

I was talking to a colleague yesterday about REA and this question came up:

How many individual bidders (not users) bid in a REA auction? My estimate is 5,000 individuals, but now, I think I may be low. 10,000?

This is why I've stopped collecting most cards, there's nothing rare or special about most of them. Sure there are exceptions to every rule but how many red Cobbs or 1971 Topps sets have I seen sold in the last 40 years? More than I can count. Still cool stuff but it doesn't personally float my boat anymore.

My invoice for November minus the one for October is in the mid-700s. That number doesn't seem crazy as a count of winners for the more recent. Since it's mostly folks with a bona fide interest in acquiring, my guess is one could double that number, maybe triple. The two most recent auctions might not be the best measure of what typically happens, but the methodology generally seems logical to me.
