The T206 Holy Grail card at REA

I am sure everyone saw how the Wagner card did at REA. $1.5 mil for a PSA "Authentic Altered" version.

Does anybody know if this was the card that long time collector Gary Cypress (owner of the private Los Angeles Sports Museum) purchased as "torn" around the year 2000, and then had it restored?

I saw the card b4 and after, and I must say, if this is the same card, Gary did pretty well with about a 20X ROI. Smart move restoring the card IMO. Savvy collector and one of the hobby's nicest person.

Not sure but it had previously been in an SGC holder.

I think this card may have been the one up for auction in the 9/30/1976 SCD issue.

Of the 3 Wagners in the Resource gallery that are trimmed to the bone on three sides, it is the only one that matches the description of creasing across the chest.

I believe it is the card that was owned by a fellow in Kentucky, who acquired it in the early 60s from an elderly New York collector who was selling his collection. This is the Wagner card that I was allowed to hold one night, barehanded, before it was placed in a slab. Bill Goodwin got in for one of his auctions about 15 years ago, give or take 2 or 3 years either way. Goodwin got it into an SGC holder, I think, when it was listed and sold. It was graded by PSA for the REA auction.

I reckon the Kentucky owner had it a bit over 40 years, ungraded, and with a very low profile. And this is among those cards that give me the feeling that there are a few more white border Wagner cards out there than some folks think.

Great reference.
either way I still think it is a nice looking card (luckily not the half card from a few months ago)
and who ever won it if a collector is very happy to have it in their collection.
IF an investor happy just to have one of the holy grail
