Hello, I have a 1904-11 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet George Mullin (Uniform) SGC 1.5. Both the front and the back of the cabinet have blackish/brownish spots. The listing called it foxing and staining. Could this be mold? If so can it get any worse over time? I purchased it knowing about the stains. I'm totally happy with it as it is and have no complaints. I do not want to "clean" it, I just want to make sure that it doesn't get any worse. I'd prefer to keep it in the SGC slab and don't plan on cracking it out unless the stains gets worse. Does anyone have other cabinets or cards with this similar problem? Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
From the internet: The chemical origin of foxing is thought to be due to the fact that that Iron Ions catalyse the oxidation of paper, yielding the yellow-brown stains. These stains belong to the organic chemistry of cellulose and gelatine. Website: "WHAT CAUSES FOXING OR STAINING IN PAPER?" https://www.mariannekelsey.com/2017/...taining-paper/

Looks like mold to me from this angle. If it is any comfort, as a collector of lower grade material (or "crap"), I've had several cards with mold on them for many years. None of them have gotten worse with time, stored in just a penny sleeve.

This Chesbro has foxing. Hasn't gotten worse. Don't know about mold.
At my age, I expect to fall apart before it does.
