Default 1968 Cellos

Just finished my 1968 set and am looking for some information on the original distribution.

Cello packs - I have watched breaks on line in which 11, 12 and 13 cards have come out sometimes with a game card and sometimes without.

Some of these were from slabs.

What's the deal - does it mean some were searched? That wouldn't explain the 13.

Was quality control really that bad?? I think they are "supposed" to have 12 cards, right?

And does anyone know what series the game cards first appeared in? Beckett.com says the game set was also available as a boxed set - any information or illustrations on that?

Here is the 1968 Topps Game boxed set, it is very rare. I think Al R owns one.

I've got far more info on the cards and boxed set than anyone probably needs here:

http://www.thetoppsarchives.com/sear...aseball%20Game

And curious if anyone ever pulled one of these out of a pack originally or even in a break:

I have one too. But someone blacked out the price ball with a permanent marker.

Very likely it was a 10 cent box that was marked out before distribution because Topps eventually thought that price was too cheap, toppcat talks about in his link in post #4.

I pulled the game cards out of 3rd series packs, the first series I actually opened as a serious kid collector so I can verify how they came out of the pacsk back in 68

The game cards exist in 2 different stocks, a cream and a ‘white white’. Anyone know if the cards inserted in packs were one stock and the boxed sets the other stock?

Does anyone know how many cards "should" be in a '68 cello? I've seen breaks on YouTube with 11, 12 and even one with 13 cards. Would Cellos from the first 2 series have 12 cards, and then afterwards maybe 11 with a game card?

I don't think it's possible to tell 100% as most Topps sets from the 50's and 60's have the same stock variations. The white-white I refer to as Brilliant white and it seems to hold its color through the decades.

Cliff,

I just took a closer look at the price area, and it was listed for 10 cents.

Cheers,
