Default T206 Jimmy Collins

Hi Fellow Collectors: I'm searching hard for a T206 Jimmy Collins with one of the "better" backs. I'd like to get GD-2 through VGEX-4 equivalent condition. May I have your opinion? What is the going rate for a graded 2 (SGC) Collins with a Polar back? One is for sale on eBay, priced high at $425/BO. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I just looked at the card and the seller. I bought a higher priced card from him yesterday. The card looks nice for being a PB and "2". Its the old saying....buy the card not the grade. PM or email me and I would be happy to give more info on contacting this particular seller. But I do like the card. Prices have been ticking up for portraits. Its all about what the card means to you for the price.

Hey Brian, great info. Noted your comment about portraits $. Curious on your thoughts as to why these are going up?

Thanks,
Chuck

My instant reaction would be supply and demand. A lot of people have moved into the hobby in the last few years. I think they are realizing that the new stuff is mass produced and highly speculative. As a collector, I love the beauty and grace of the 110 year old cards. They are not making any more of them. I'm on a lot of the auction sites, and have read threads about high prices being paid for the portraits. That is consistent with what I am seeing. There are guys on here who have a lot more knowledge and experience than I do. But that is my "2 cents", for what its worth.

Brian

As a portraits only collector, I can confirm the prices are a bit higher. I have that Collins PB on my watchlist, the price is fair, imo.

I’d been watching that card for a minute….looks like someone bought it this morning.

Thanks James & John. I pulled the trigger on it. Will post clearer images of the front and back in the January Pick Ups thread after it arrives. Really appreciate your time to give an opinion.
