Default PWCC is Placing Banner Ads on EBay

Interesting but not surprising. Commerce heals all wounds.

FWIW, they are also advertising (heavily) on YouTube. Clicked on at least 5 videos yesterday that were preceded by a PWCC Ad. And only one of those videos was baseball-related.

Can't speak for PWCC's overall results from their most recently concluded baseball monthly auction, but based on some of my wins in the first auction and a close price on a card I considered in the most recent auction, clearly some advertising somewhere needs to be done.

In my case, Ebay sell prices have exceeded their sell prices. On ebay over the last month, there were two copies of a PSA 7 HOFer RC from a 50s set I'm working on that both had fairly equal eye appeal. I was an under bidder on one that sold at $650+, I grabbed the second one at $675+. A week later, a 3rd copy, similar with visual appeal, sold via PWCC for $480. Obviously I should have waited and bid on this 3rd copy, but...

I had two wins in the 1st monthly auction that fell 15-20% below recent ebay sell prices, not as significant as the one from this month.

Obviously a very small sample size, but I don't recall such significant variances in close prices while they were on ebay.

If I were PWCC and seeing a higher than normal percentage of results such as this, I would be advertising too.

I would guess that it's not intentional. It's probably just something done through a third-party advertising company, and you see them because you collect baseball cards.
eBay may not even be aware of it until you point it out to them.

The advertising done online these days is typically tailored to the user. Different people will see different ads, based on things such as their YouTube viewing history and eBay purchases.

I wouldn’t mind so much; however, my wife asked me to purchase something for a gift. I otherwise never would have bought a “Magic Mixies” toy.

I’m seeing ads for all sorts of crap now. I guess the only way to shift the advertising back (to 1% revolution and other slightly more tolerable spots) is to buy more cards.

One way or another, advertising works.

If I was a consignor with PWCC right now, I would be pretty pissed.

I feel the same way. There were some surprising bargains in the 1st auction.
E.g. a 1956 Topps Clemente PSA 4 went for only $340. I picked up a 1953 Bowman Color Pee Wee Reese PSA 3 (as well as some other bargains) for only $280--well below ebay prices.

I do feel there were fewer bargains in this 2nd auction. Maybe some people sat on the sidelines of the 1st auction waiting for the kinks to be worked out?

They're probably using an advertising firm. This stuff happens all the time. Companies learn about who they are advertising with through social media. Someone calls out PETA on Twitter because a Bass Pro Shop ad shows up on their website and the Twitter snowflakes all start crying and trying to organize a boycott. PETA executives go crazy trying to figure out how this happened lol.

I won A LOT more cards than I had anticipated buying in last month's PWCC auction simply because my lowball bids held up.

Interestingly, the cards were shipped to me from some random address in Los Angeles though. Not from PWCC in Oregon.
