Default Does PSA/Mears Attempt to Photo Match Bats?

When submitting a pre-war bat, do the companies make any effort to photo match it? Or is a photo match up to the owner to find and submit with the bat?

I realize that photo-matched pre-war bats are really rare, but I am just wondering if the authenticators have photo databases and put any effort into this aspect.

Thanks

I have a bat that has a cert saying it is photo matched to a certin day. But when auction company submitted the bat they did not included the photo match. So PSA cert dose not mention the photo match at all. PSA grades bats they do not do any independent photo match of game used equipment that I know of.

PSA (John Taube of JT Sports) will provide a photomatch service for an additional fee. I have several bats photomatched by them. These services are described on the JT Sports website.

I would think finding a true photo match for a pre-war bar (vs. what some call a style match) would be extremely difficult because of the relative lack of photos to sort through and the lower resolution of many of the photos that are available.

We get requests all the time for past scans from people hoping to match bats and jerseys. Mostly auction houses, never directly from authenticators.

Thanks for all of the replies. (And Rhys, thanks for sending the photo when I asked!)

I will look into JT Sports, thank you.

I have been assuming a bat needs to be subbed with a photo match, if there is one, and if the match happens after the grading you might need to pay to regrade it with the photo.
