Default RIP, Dr. Bobby Brown

He was 96. I didn't realize he quit baseball at 29 to pursue his cardiology practice. What a career he had with the Yankees in their glory days. I believe he has four World Series rings. RIP, Dr.

RIP Dr. Brown. He signed his 1949 Bowman for me back in 2014. Unless I am mistaken, his passing leaves only Curt Simmons and Tommy Brown left from that set.

Sad news. 4 time world series winner (his WS stats are unreal) and the last living member of the 47, 49 and 1950 championship teams. R.I.P. Dr. Brown.

So weird that Eddie Robinson isn't in that set.

Default Bobby Brown

The 1947 TIP TOP card of Bobby Brown is his rookie card

The first 5 years (1947 - 1951), Bobby was the 3rd Baseman for the Yankees. He certainly contributed to their 4
World Championship victories within those 5 years. Especially in the World Series with his record-setting .439 in
17 games (41 AB's) and with an amazing 1.21 OPS. His .439 BA record still stands for W.S. batters having more
than 20 At-Bats. SABR has a great write-up on Bobby.... https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/bobby-brown/

GOD Bless his soul......and, comfort his Family and friends.

There are a few head-scratchers with who Bowman excluded. Eddie Robinson is one, but also Carl Erskine, Johnny Groth, Johnny Atonelli, Johnny Hetki, Joe Garagiola, and probably a few others I'm missing. They weren't in that year's Leaf set, so it wasn't a contract issue.

Default Dr. Brown

I have one foul ball from a Major League game. One of my most prized possesions. I remember every detail. Doug Drabek was pitching for the Yankees. Jesse Barfield was the batter. Exhibition Stadium in Toronto. I didn't catch it, but it came to rest under the seats and I was able to snag it.
The signature was Bobby Brown, president of the American League.
