Just picked up this cool original photo and was hoping you guys could identify the players. McGraw obviously in middle. Stengel to his right I think?
This is a screenshot so ignore the green lines. Photo isn’t in hand yet. Thx in advance all!!

Very hard to see the players in the image posted. Can you post or send me a clearer shot? I can tell you Hank Gowdy is the tall player, second from the right, back row. Hughie Jennings is to the left of McGraw and Stengel was not with the Giants at this point, so that could be a young Frankie Frisch.

AND this has got to be a 1924 World Tour shot, possibly with some non-Giants. That's Stuffy McInnis far left. He was part of the group that traveled following the 1924 season.

Stengel WAS with the tour, so that could in-fact be him as you mentioned.

Hans Lobert and Johnny Evers are in the back row. Here is a slightly different version featuring some that are in yours and some that are not like Sam Rice and Red Faber.

Done! Only person I can't ID is the gentleman in the back wearing the coat. It almost looks like George Stallings but I'm not sure what he was up to in 1924. Would take some research.

Isn't that Ross Youngs. According to John Thorn, Youngs was on the trip but became ill. This was probably where he first showed the signs of Brights Disease.

Great detective work.
I can't believe how old some of these guys look. Groh and Gowdy were 35, McInnis was 34 -- all three look like they're in their fifties. Greg |
