Really interesting guy...
Hoblitzell signed with the Cincinnati Reds in 1908, playing with the team through 1914 and studying dentistry in the offseasons. He was the National League at-bats leader in 1910 and 1911 and Cincinnati's Most Valuable Player in 1911. With the Red Sox in 1914, he won two consecutive World Series (1915 and 1916). He was often assigned to room with Babe Ruth when the team traveled, as the team's management hoped that Hoblitzell would be a good influence on the rowdy superstar. Hoblitzell's baseball career was interrupted by his induction into the U.S. Army Dental Corps in 1918, and he never returned to the major leagues. He later moved to Wood County, West Virginia, where he became the county commissioner in 1942. In 1952, he began a four-year stint as the county sheriff. Though Hoblitzell did not open a dental practice, he performed some dental work for friends at his home. ![]()

Led the NL in stolen bases from 1909-1912. His 428 career stolen bases puts him tied with Silent Mike Tiernan for 61st on the all-time list, behind John McGraw and Tris Speaker, tied at 58th place, and ahead of Craig Biggio in 67th place...

Pitched briefly with the Giants in 1908. Starred for the Oakland Oaks from 1912-1913 going 45-27. Featured in the Zee-nut series, which is nice.

Jimmy is from the Pennsylvania Dutch country (not too far from where we live). Jimmy played first with Brooklyn (8 years), and
then Chicago Cubs (7 years). Also short stints with 4 other Major League teams for a career total of 17 years (1897 - 1913). He was a great lead-off batter, and an outstanding defensive outfielder. His best year at bat was 1901...... BA = .354 Hits = 196 HR = 11 RBI = 104 SLG = .534 ![]() ![]() TED Z T206 Reference . Last edited by tedzan; 04-27-2020 at 09:16 AM. Reason: Added information. |

There were two "Jeff" Pfeffer (brothers) in the ML in the deadball era. This T206 card
features Francis "Big Jeff" Pfeffer (1905 - 1911, Outfielder & Pitcher W-L 31-39). His younger brother was Edward "Jeff" Pfeffer (1911 - 1924, Pitcher W-L 158 - 112). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() TED Z T206 Reference . |

Jordan batting is off the board. Mel Kiper, Jr. had him slotted for mid-April.
Nice pick here in the later rounds. Superbas' slugger led the NL in homers in 1906 and 1908.

Franz "Otto" Knabe -- you can see he adds an "F" before Otto in his signature -- received MVP votes in three-straight seasons, 1911-1913, as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies and during his time with the Phillies, he led the National League in sacrifice hits.
Knabe twice received a single vote for the Baseball Hall of Fame, once in 1939, and the other in 1942. ![]()

1911 was a magic year for Frank "Wildfire" Schulte. He was first to hit 21 HR's in the "Deadball" era, 4 of which were Grand Slams.
Schulte was the first player ever to hit 4 Grand Slams in one season. He batted .300 and he drove in 121 - Runs. His Major League career spanned 15 seasons. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() TED Z T206 Reference . |
