I consigned a few items and made about a twenty percent profit over what I paid, which given the state of the economy I can't complain about. I used a portion of my winnings on this nice Houdini signed letter, which will display really well in my home bar. I hope everyone is staying safe and well.

I noticed many bidders had glitches as they kept hitting the BID button in extended time. I ended up with these two Cobbs. Really excited about the E&S Cobb postcard as I have the type 1 photo of the same image.

Nice haul Jeff. Those are beautiful cards. You even got a bonus on the Wright-an 1890 card.

I'm a Sports Guy almost 100%, but this is what I won last night ( went back to childhood ). Cobb's and Wolverines ( Jeff Congratulations on the Thompson etc N172's ) out of my current budget. Hope the scan works ( computer skills lacking ).

I picked up two T210's I have wanted for a few years. The Pepe Upside down split back and the Thebo for its yellowish borders. REA had it listed as orange. The Kelly Mascot did well IMO. I was a low under bidder on a potential 3rd Yum Yum. That one got pricey. Great auction as always!

I'm really happy about the card I won last night...only way that I could afford it was if it had a hole in it!

i know some people may not like this idea, but as long as it was all done transparently...if you had any custom card skills to "repair" these and fill in the holes, i think you could send them back for A treatment (or even restored label) and come out really well regardless, still a cool card as it sits and much more affordable this way |

Jeff, that is a great collection of OJ HOFers. Are you going for the full run? Jay pointed out the 1890 Wright, nice bonus. I also like the clean looking Ewing from 1888. I took interest in the 1888 example of Mack, you just don't see those very often but I can't afford to start branching out to non-Detroits.
I was happy to add to the Tomlinson collection . . . Shindle in street clothes.

First let me complement many here on fantastic pickups. The W600 Wagner, Clement Cobb, the run of OJ Hall of Famers , Ginter Album, lineup cards signed by Mack and Johnson, "The" Tango eggs Cobb.. All great stuff.
My 2 pickups First 1910 WS stub (AL) m. And second 1923 Giants silver Season pass. I hope I am not wrong about it but under the tarnish it looks like a very nice example. I was close on a number of scorecards and missed on the 1904 Highlanders because 5 minutes was just not enough time to update my bids. So I agree with those that suggest 10 minutes. Many rare cards and I thought the Fleischman bread Matty and Cobb were nice and reasonably priced. As were the large Ferguson pennants the Mcgraw was a very nice example. |

1967 Topps 1st series cello box. 48 packs sold for $102,000. A quick story. Back in the mid 80's I was at the huge antiques market in Brimfield, Mass. Had already bought some things and was looking for more. I walked around the corner of a building and there was a seller strait where I was headed. Getting close to the table I spotted a cello box. Ran right over to see what it was. Yes, it was a 1967 cello box. priced at $5.00 per pack. I offered the guy $200 for it and he took it. Went home that night cleaned up and hit the hay. Next day I started looking through the box of packs. I then realized that all the card numbers on the back of the packs were under 200. WOW, Mantles I thought. Well Mantle was about the hottest thing at the time so I started opening the packs. Found 2 mantles in the 1 thru 98 packs. I sold the rest at a show. The 2 mantles graded in later years graded 8's. I still have one. Total amount I will end up with after I sell the Mantle I still have, will be somewhere around 2100 to 2500 when I sell it. One of my better deals. ARRRRFFFF. Frank

I also picked up a few OJs. Loving the contrast/clarity on them for sure! I can't begin to tell you how hard it is to find a nice Griffith that doesn't have a faded image.
Incredible haul for you, Jeff. And JayCee, Ryan...Wow!

Those are beauties Derek. Are you working on the HOF set or just rookie cards? BTW, that Griffith is Exhibit A for the idiocy of grading Old Judges.

I have to say that the Griffith will probably measure a bit thinner than most of my other OJs, but I can't complain. I would have still been a buyer if it had received an "A". But Jay, I think you are suggesting that, if not for the back damage to this particular card, it should have been given a "5" or higher... As Yoda once said: "Grades matter not. Judge me by my grades do you?"

I was shut out, but really loving seeing everyone's "wins"...
Brian, I think the Lou Gertenrich is now my all time favorite back... fantastic. Jesse, great E90-1 Young. Beautiful example of one of my favorite cards. Ryan... I love the Red Sox/Ruth postcard... along with everything else you got. Simply amazing. David, great trio of T206 HOFers. Love the bold/vivid color on all three. Jeff, the contrast on those OJs...wow. Amazing image quality. Thanks for sharing, everyone! Last edited by Andrew1975; 04-22-2020 at 11:41 AM. |

Thanks Gary.
Jeff, yes I thought it went cheap (maybe I could have left out the “very”). I would have put the over/under at $375k, and I would have bet the over (and lost). I guess on that one, only one whale needed it; or I am just off. Last edited by Rhotchkiss; 04-25-2020 at 07:12 PM. |

Quite a few high end collectors were after it, consensus over/under was $300k, at least among the ones I spoke to that were actually after it.
Special card for sure, you should have grabbed it! Wonder how long before we see another. |

I hope another comes out in 3 years.
REA had so many great cards in this auction that I wanted. My concern on the W600 Cobb was that I would get into a bidding war (above $300k) that I would ultimately lose, and end up missing out on the other cards I wanted; that’s the risk/downfall of a lot by lot closing. In retrospect, seeing where it closed, I may have given up what I “won” for the Cobb instead. Regardless, great piece and hope another comes out within 3 years. |
