Well, per Baseball-Reference.com, there was a Cy Parkin who pitched in the minors during that time, who had won 23 games in 1908 in Class B ball and would spend 1909 in Class A Newark. One guess is he got an invite to Spring Training with the Highlanders.

I looked into Cy Parkin and I believe it might be him. I see John Frill And Harry Wolverton both played along side him at Newark in 1909. They both went on to play for the Highlanders and had t206's issued of them. I also see that Parkin played for the Oakland Oaks & the San Francisco Seals. I wonder if he has any cards I can compare with my Spooner & wells photo ???

Cy was in Georgia with the 1909 Highlanders. A couple more photos of Cy. They also called him Si Parkins in some newspapers.
