Finished off a higher-grade, ultra-centered Nolan Ryan run in December (PSA 8-9) up to 1982, and really enjoyed the challenge.
Here's a pic of my run, and would love to see whatever interesting Nolan Ryan items the board has to share. I only caught the last half of his career growing up, but his dominance, velocity, and durability are amazing to me. In the current age, I'm not sure how anyone comes near his Strikeout or No-Hit numbers. And maybe *THE* fastest heater ever at 108.5 mph, if the pseudo-scientific documentary Fastball is to be believed... NolanRunJan2019blkJPG.jpg

your awesome Ryan collection!! Ryan was a second favorite (to Clemente) for me. I have been working on a run of some of his tougher cards - I have (will try to find/post photos soon) 1968 O-Pee-Chee rookie PSA 6, 1968 Milton Bradley rookie (mid grade), 1968 Venezuelan rookie - low-mid grade (SGC 40??). 1971 O Pee Chee PSA 8 (or 8.5 don't remember), 1975 O pee CHee PSA 8, looking to get the 1973, 1974, 1976 and 1977 O Pee Chee- higher grade to round out the collection. Find the odd ones - much more of a challenge to find/find nice.

That ‘71 sure does look under-graded. Much nicer than the 4 on the flip. Makes you wonder what PSA sees that we don’t. I’ve always thought that if you can only see a flaw with a loupe, then they shouldn’t knock it so hard.
Very nice Ryan collection, Jason. Growing up in Houston, he was always my favorite player and the only pitcher I followed on a regular basis for two decades. My only Ryan card unfortunately... |

Actually I have two Ryan cards. Forgot about this baby. In fact doesn’t this ‘74 Topps Ryan action shot look exactly like the ‘75 piece that Adam has above?

As a error card guy this is the coolest Ryan I have owned. It is missing the red ink on the back and had a ton of the brightener applied they used on some of the 91 Topps that made the backs glow.

I don't have anything super special or even a run per se, but as a kid - Nolan along with Mickey Mantle was probably the player I idolized the most. I had all his books and even the coffee-table style memorabilia book that came out in the mid 90's.
I won't post pics because you all know what they look like, but my oldest Ryan cards today are his '69 Topps in PSA 4, (I'm a mid-grade guy) a really clean '70 #712 that used to be a PSA 6.5 but is now a raw card. ;-) and his '72 Topps that was an SGC 4 - also now liberated from slab - that really is nothing special but I'm supper happy with it because I only paid $15. Has anyone else ever noticed how hard the '72 Ryan is to find not centered, but just without tilt? Mine is decently centered, not perfect, but does not have the tilt - which after looking for one of those cards to buy for awhile became the main thing to me. Beyond that I have a few more '70s Ryans here and there and then a ton when you get into the '80s and '90s. Back in the day I had a really nice '68 rookie - would have been probably at least a 6...but I didn't hold onto it. I really don't think you can ever go wrong with Ryan cards. Clearly he'll always be highly collectible, and he was and is a wonderful ambassador for the game.
