Default FS: Babe Ruth Style Boston Red Sox Sweater

Cooperstown collection, I have been told that less than a dozen of each team were made before they were stopped from production. This comes from a smoke free home and is in impeccable condition and is a size Large.

$450 shipped in a large USPS Priority box (this thing is HEAVY). PP FF, cash, check, MO

Thanks,
Greg

I have nothing to add but to say that is one AWESOME freaking sweater. If I had the bucks I would buy it from you in a heartbeat.

Good luck on the sale.

FYI, I bought the Boston sweater and it is extremely high quality. An amazing sweater. If I did not have it I would have gotten the New York one.
Does anyone know the history of these? They seem to handmade.

They were made by Peter Capolino who was the original founder of Mitchell and Ness. I believe he still makes them every so often, if you contact him, even though he's firmly out of the Jersey game at this point

Ebbetts Field Flannels has taken up the Mantle of making the vintage cardigans now. Still made in the USA as well.

Default Brief history of the sweaters

In case anyone other than me is interested in the history of these I found an interesting article on UniWatch from 2010 (thanks to James’ info) that gives a pretty good overview.
Briefly, between 1989 and 2001 Peter Capolino oversaw the design, specifications, knitting and sale of 18-36 sweaters a year using 16 designs. No numbers of of how many of each design was given, but safe to say it was very small. They were all handmade by a woman named Norma Reichert in Maine. They are 100% wool, weigh about 4 pounds and were made “flat bed machines”.
Capolino stopped when Mitchell and Ness took off. A couple of attempts to have them made for every MLB team fell through.
