How do you pack and send one card?

Seller charged me $3.95 to ship, and I see on the small size bubble mailer that his cost was .94c so I dinged his feedback on that too LOL! So my cost was $22.45 or 90% "book" price.

I was reading someone elses purchase of a card from ebay about shipping.
so obviously it doesnt cost much to ship.
But for a while I have thought if I ever actually traded with someone or bought one card...how do you send one card so it stays safe but you dont overdue the packing?

I put it in a penny sleeve and a plastic card saver. Then I place it in between two pieces of cardboard and tape together. Then I either use bubble wrap or plastic bags for more cushion and place in a bubble mailer. Ships for about $2.54. Never had a complaint.

For graded cards I send out I place the card in a sleeve then between two pieces of cardboard that i tape together and then wrap a piece of bubble wrap around the cardboard and place in a bubble mailer. Costs $2.60 when I don't need signature confirmation. Seems to work great and I get positive feedback on the shipping.

I typically try and salvage shipping materials from cards I buy, often can salvage a good bit other than the outer mailer.

frankbmd suggested this method a while ago; though I can't recall the thread. Penny sleeve, plastic saver, in a greeting card, with a thin cardboard backing, it cost roughly 90 cents if memory serves. Yes it saves money, but for a card of any quality I'd suggest the methods above.

If you keep the thickness less than a quarter of an inch and make entire envelope rigid and add 20 or 21 cents postage and specify hand stamping, a single card will ship safely for about 75 cents.

The card in a card saver taped to cardboard the size of the envelope works fine. Alternatively the card may be placed in a top loader. A card board "gasket" the size of the envelope can then be made so that the top loader fits into the cardboard gasket and then secure it with tape.

Either way the entire envelope is rigid and flat a less than 1/4 of an inch thick and the package will not go through a shredder.

If you are confused, I would be happy to sell you a card so that you can see for yourself.

One thing to note. Unless USPS has changed it something mailed first class has to be 3/4 or more thick to have tracking.

I'm very sure of this, as I had a photo mailer mailed with click and ship as a first class package (It wasn't flexible so it was considered to be a package) Rejected and returned to me for insufficient postage.

The manager at the PO and I discussed it, and I went home to repack and print out the part of the DMM that I thought applied. - 1/4 or less thick not flexible =package = tracking ok. (Plus the Ebay click and ship forced the inclusion of tracking, why offer the special deal on a service that can't be used?)

He'd printed out a different section saying that mail pieces under 3/4 thick that were not priority weren't elegible for tracking.

Solved it with a packing peanut and retaping the photo mailer.
