In the first issue of Sports Collector's Digest from October 12, 1973, which I posted the other day, there is a story and numerous photos about a sports collecting convention held in New York City on September 14-16, 1973. This was actually the second card convention to be held in New York at the District 65 Center -- the first had been held a few months before on Memorial Day weekend, 1973. The July 1973 issue of Sports Scoop (issue #6) had two articles about that show -- one by 14-year-old Keith Olbermann, and one by Ron Greenwood. I've scanned them below. The photos are a nice touch -- Olbermann took one of Greenwood standing next to Mike Aronstein, and Greenwood took one of Olbermann, apparently eating a hot dog. There's also a picture of Net54's own Fred McKie, along with Dan Dischley (of The Trader Speaks) and Bruce Yeko (of Wholesale Cards), all three of whom were at Aronstein's 1970 mini-convention that I posted an article about last night.

Apparently so. On the other hand, the 1957 Topps baseball set has increased a little bit from $40.

Shoot, I wish I was just a few years older, so I would have become a basketball fan earlier and bought some boxes of 86-87 Fleer when they were like $14. Instead I got stuck buying boxes of 90-91 Fleer.

I remember the 70s. 14 % mortgages, 18 % interest on money markets, and waiting 45 minutes to fill up with gas. Plus now I wish I was younger. Boy, do I miss those days

Oh wow, right at the end there it's mentioned that my mother "is about as cute as they come." No way that'd make it into an article these days.

Is Mr. Olbermann a member of Net54?
Has he posted here ![]() He had a spot on CBS in Los Angeles way back in 80's. I remember as a kid he brought cards to the show from time to time. I enjoyed his show on ESPN last year till they cancelled it ![]() Wish he lands another position maybe with MLB network.

Does anybody recall the furor that erupted when Keith bought a T206 Doyle Nat'l from Alan Rosen graded by the old SGC (Joe Merkle and co.) that turned out to have been doctored somehow to include the Nat'l. All hell broke loose, people were running for cover and, if I remember correctly, SGC gave Olbermann a full refund to try and salvage their reputation. Rosen, naturally, was screaming for some type of compensation, but I don't think he got anything. It seems his prominence in the hobby started to decline after that.

(RIP) ran many non-sport shows in NYC - Paul had an unreal collection and a strange outlook on life and things - I guess I fit right in as many of the hobby faithful seem just a little "off".....
