What do you guys think of the very rare Old Judge card: Harry Wright?

Are cards from this type of famous ball player still highly sought amongst collectors even do faded? Why this player because I was reading about how important he was for the game of baseball and landed on this specific picture (no other reason).

Harry Wright is a very popular name with collectors of early baseball. As is his younger brother George. Harry was a pioneer of the game and a member of the fabled 1869 Reds, so will always be popular.

Are all 3 of his card variations hard to obtain or mostly the one where is head turns left and the is no beard near his ear?

Good question and maybe a 19th century expert can chime in. It's been a while since I've seen the card you've got in question. Actually I didn't know there was a PSA 5 out there. I know a few years ago an SGC 30 sold for nearly $4,000. I'm surprised that PSA 5 got that grade though considering how faded it is.

My guess is the rest of the card seems very nice compared to most 1887 Old Judge cards...maybe in person it looks better....the image I mean.

That image is very faded. If you don't mind faded images you'll be able to grab some great deals on OJs. I know I'd have a lot more stuff if I considered the faded ones collectible, to each his own.

One thing I've noticed; his 1887 card seem to have better photo quality, on average, then the 1889 cards I've seen. I can't really speak on his 1888 cards, I've never seen one. I think pose 510-1 is the most common.

Harry Wright is one of the most rare OJ Hall of Famers. None of the OJ HOFers are exceedingly rare compared to 19th century type cards. But they are still scarce, and Wright is very scarce and desirable.

Certain OJ HOF poses, however, truly are rare, with the classic examples being Harry's third pose or Cap Anson in uniform. The Anson in uniform will go for six figures and Harry's third pose, probably mid-high five figures.

The PSA 5 Wright card that you write about was purchased two years ago for just under $4000. There won't be much demand for the card because the image is so faded, but it is still Harry Wright, so someone will want it.
