I got a 2nd chance offer this evening on a card that a friend has in his possession already. Here is the guys information: Is there anything we can do? This is a 100% scam, I am postive. The board member friend and I spoke on the phone a little while ago and he has the card in hand. |

I would love to nail this guy and am hoping that there is some way to do it. I know we have a multitude of lawyers, at least one judge, and was hoping for some law enforcement on the board. I am not sure ebay safe harbor would go after this criminal. His email is sinatra2383@gmail.com |

I'd call the bank to verify the account exists and who it is registered to. If they get suspecious, let them know whats going on. I live 20 mins away from there and would help if there's anyway possible, but I'm heading out to New York for the weekend. Good luck, Leon! |

That's what I figured I would do. I will let them know what's up and see if they can help, and maybe get some law enforcement involved too. One by one we could take these bast**** out. If anyone else has any other ideas don't be shy......regards |

Chances are he doesn't even live in that part of the country. That is the same trick our old friend crazycanuck turned to when the heat was on. Lived on one coast, gave bank account details on the other coast, exactly like this guy is trying to do. Gotta love internet banking. Also gave a west coast address which was a po box that was automatically forwarded to the east coast. Watch out for guys like this, lucky you knew that the card was in someone's possesion or who knows what would happen. Jim. |

I got TWO second chance offers on two different cards from different sellers the other night. Within 10 minutes of each other. While my bids were both solid $3000+ bids on both cards, I was not even the third underbidder on either. Looked like a legit email, but the bottom said to contact the seller via email (which ebay would obviously never do since then they couldn't take their cut). |

I have several emails from this guy and will call the bank that he is trying to use, today. I will put some effort into it but not a whole lot. These people really do need to be put away. I am sure there are a lot of scammers trying this 2nd chance deal. This is the first one that I have answered..... |

Burn this guy at the stake. I got suckered by one of these guys on a second chance offer for a comic book. It enrages me every time I think about it. What makes it so pathetic is I thought that I was safely dealing with/through Ebay the whole time. No recourse available. I guess I was the sucker born that day. Embarrassing. |

Leon, if you feel this post is off topic, please delete my posting. However, I think the community should be made aware of a blatent shill bidder selling pre-WWII cards. pcj212 is shill bidding vintage trading cards. |

it appears this is the first you've heard of this. I have gotten these emails for 1 1/2- 2 years on and off. Sometimes I was like the tenth underbidder. There is a link if I can find it to the internet fraud bureau. After you file a notice about the person their disclaimer says they will never contact you about it as they can't by law or sumptin and only take action if blah blah blah... I had a serious problem and never heard anything after reporting someone (as they said I wouldn't) and nothing was ever done as the seller continued to list for more than a year. That when I know of 6/7 people I directed there to report the same person. It's the reason eBay "CLAIMS" they started the over 200.00 hidden bidding list..... |

My dad got a second chance offer on an antique car he already had possesion of.He then traded that car a few months later for another car and about a week later the current car he owns was listed on ebay by someone other than the person he bought it from....so basically, ebay has alot of problems |

I think this whole "second chance" offer thing is a big mess. My inbox is filled weekly with these, many of which i never even bid on, and all of them are illegitimate. I dont know why ebay continues this as i would think the cons far outway the pros in this instance. I dont think the scammers could have thought of a better idea themselves for ebay to institute. |

Henry - I was thinking the exact same thing. This is what I thought the anonymous bidder thing was supposed to prevent. In fact, that's the exact reason cited by ebay for implementing it. |

Leon -- the crime is wire fraud, a federal offense. Problem is, the feds will have no interest unless the amount of money scammed is at least 6 figures imo. |

By the way I was scammed for $90,000 3 yrs ago and a fellow collector for $80,000 and NEITHER ebay not the police gave two ****s , to put it bluntly. And I'm glad to share details with sscammers name, modus operandi etc if anyone wants to know. bill |

Typically, if you get a 2nd chance offer on an item you never bid on the scam it to try and get your user id and password. There is typically a link in the email to take you to the so called 2nd chance offer but its really a spoof site. It looks just like ebay but if you look at the url you will notice its NOT. If you attempt to login to this (ebay spoof) site the scammer has just collected your user/password. You will usually get a invalid user/password the first attempt! **This is your first clue that something is WRONG!. If you have clicked on an ebay link in an email and can't login first time, immediately go to www.ebay.com and change your password before someone else does!

These scams are so common on eBay, but what is interesting is the amount of info in the email (name, back account and bank name) - at one time I was getting a scam each time I won. I think a few years go they were real bad and eBay did alert members. They told me to always use the spoof email to let them know, I did keep sending them and for the past year the amount of scam emails I get is way down. I hope the bank can track this guy, I do not send second chance offers or respond to them - eBay should do away with this option |
