that David Festberg was selling the square corners in the late 80's and early 90's. I never heard that they were "illegal" but had always thought they were a warehouse find. I've not been on the board long enough to know whether that was ever discussed and disproven. |

I believe it was such a large find that there was a collector who ran regular ads in SCD where you could buy a near set for $99 (which included Robinson, Louis and Williams). There was a short article in Sports Illustrated about how there were about 1200 near sets which were found in mint condition. Kind of a shame that people seem to be under the impression the square cornered cards are fakes, but these cards are from 1947. |
